Did any one see this on Froch undercard, was shown on sky. my fellow ex school pupil daz scored an excellent knockout in the 10th whilst already being ahead. he had turned it round after tyan booth looked to have it early on. Well done daz mate !

Fair play to Gethin but it's a long time since I've seen someone have an almost completely empty tank so quickly.

Booth was knackered after Gethin pressed him throughout the third round and by the fifth he was absolutely gone and I thought he should have been pulled out.

It became painful watching - Gethin should have finished it in the sixth but it went right to the tenth. It was like trying to watch a little lad who couldn't get hold of the last leg to pick off the dying fly.

Well done to Darren, though - totally deserved.

Fiar play to Gethin, he is a hard nosed warrior who brings the fight every time out.

Well done Daz - you earned that belt in there! :TU:

First of all: Well done Darren Gethin. He wanted that belt, and he thoroughly deserves it. However: Why was Booth allowed to carry on? I was watching the fight with my Brother (who is not a big boxing fan, although he enjoys watching fights) and he was screaming at the TV at the end of the 6th round. It was obvious Booth had nothing left, his punches had nothing on them, and the look on his face in the corner should have been enough. He really didn't want to be there anymore.

Well done Gethin.

And thats the problem with the body only sparring sessions when a fighter reflexes starts to fatigue. Booth looked clueless at times as he was so spent, should have been pulled out sooner.

I don't suppose Dean Harrison was shown on the undercard? I missed the show.

You should follow him, if you don't already, Steve. Came into the ring with a Wolves top on! (Then Tatevosyan came in with two actual wolves round his neck, but that's another story.)

He did well initially and I particularly liked him doubling up on the left hook, head and body. His body shot looked good.

Seemed to run out of ideas after a bit but that's understandable.

Yep i do follow him Ian, a couple of my mates from Wolves knock about with him. I went out with him one night as part of a group and i would say he can punch a bit if you know what i mean

Anyway he has remained unbeaten and is gaining good experience on the undercards. I seem to recall a few years back he had gone out to Philadelphia to get some training done in the big gyms and he loved it. Hope he progresses well, i know WolvesLad gets to watch him more often than myself as i am no longer in Wolverhampton :TU:

strange quote there stu, the fatigue can only be attributed to the weight loss, thats where the problem lies i feel. unfair to knock the wincobanks methods, they have proven their worth over the years with their regimes.

If he was 11st a week before the fight he made 10 6 on Thursday. This doesn't seem too bad. Then he had a day and a half to replenish which again, seems fine.

It could be something else such as not being fit enough full stop or a virus, etc.

Ha Ha, it was about 4 years ago and i was just standing and watching. Impressive speed and accuracy but i am not sure exactly what the other fella had done if anything. Hence that was the last time i was out with that crowd. :box:

Perhaps it was unfair, but I still maintain that when things start to go wrong the survival instincts of the majority of TV based fighters from the gym isn't the greatest - or at least leave that impression (which surely is the impression that is given to the judges).

Not just Booth - but even the current WBC World Light Welter champion looks novice like and all over place when things start going wrong.

Naseem, Ryan Rhodes etc - all looked all over the place when not on top and I am not the only one who has attributed this to the unauthodox sparring methods (Jim Watt has done aswell). Despite the experience of their champions they still seem to absolutely cac themselves when it comes to the thought of a head shot.

Johnny Nelson obviously demonstrated a very effective survival instincts - but it wasn't pleasing viewing and still recieved comments from people who know more about the game than me that he seemed scared.

I agree, surely its common sense that if you dont get used to dealing with head shots in sparring how can you deal with them in a real live fight?.... this was always Naz's biggest flaw and was totally exposed by his fight with Barrera... going back to this fight, good one Gethin, but I was surprised and disapointed that Booth as allowed to carry on when it was obvious that he had nothing left from the 5th round on.... he should have been saved the nasty ko and people get hurt in fights when they are that exhasted...

Terrific effort from Gethin. He's a very worthy champion. He looked booked for a points win anyway from what I could see, but put a cracking seal on matters by flattening his opponent in the last.

I hope his handlers give him the opportunity to defend his title at a home venue, rather than chase a money match against another prospect. That was a championship winning effort from Darren and he deserves to be treated as such. Good luck to the bloke. :TU:

As for Booth, he looked like a poor mans Andrew Facey, but I think the real reason for his defeat is quite a few management teams are mis-calculating when their boxers are ready for longer distance fights like 8x3's and 10x3's.

Great performance from Daz, who was really, really fired up for this contest. He was fired up for the Sherrington fight in December, when he won the Masters strap, but i know how much he wanted the Midland Area belt.

PJ and Errol are probably going to put both Daz and Mart on the same bill in a show in Walsall in May. It was a shame that Steve lost in his tilt for a title in January - only by a single point, though - all three brothers could have been champions then.

Daz is much better than his record suggests; he has only ever fought one fighter with a negative record. Plus, he takes fights at the very last minute against bigger men.

As for 'Deano', i've seen all five of his professional fights and i think he is a very good prospect. I know he was gutted that they didn’t play his usual entrance tune in Nottingham, Hi Ho Sliver Lining (a Wolves anthem), but will hear it again when he fights next month.

No.

Dean Hickman fights Dave Stewart in a British lightweight title eliminator, though.

Plus a very interesting main-event.

Eastman v Evans Ashira for the Commonwealth title is main event. Looks like a good show.

Shame McDermott isn't on the show. Would be excellent if Hennessy and Errol Johnson could put their heads together and match McDermott v Matthew Thirlwall in a eliminator for the British title.

I dont think Hennesey wants to see Thirwall get beaten like a ginger stepson, hence his reluctance to make any such match..
