Has anyone here ever seen this guy fight or have any information on him?
http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=000297
He came back after about 17 years to beat the shell of Leon Spinks in Leons last 'sanctioned' fight, I understand Houpe was blind in one eye by this time.
Apart from his record on Boxrec that's about all I know about this fighter.
Anyone here with more information?

All I remember is he was managed by the comedian Redd Foxx who starred in Sanford & Son, hence Young Sanford, the only fight I've seen of his was when Larry Holmes busted him up. pretty average Heavyweight, especially for the 70's.

Second 'Worst Performance Ever' by a former world champion in any weight division in any era. An absolutely disgraceful loss for Leon, just humiliating.
Topped only by Leon getting chinned in 1 rd by debuting clubfighter John Carlo.

Worse than Jimmy Young being outpointed by Chuck Gardner?
Anyway, Overhand do you know if Spinks - Houpe was filmed? I've never seen it doing the rounds myself. Also do you know if Houpes initial retirment was due to his eyesight? But like you say the decline of Neon Leon was very sad to witness.
Also did you ever get around to writing to Michael Dokes?

Fred Houpe fought amateur out of Chicago, winning several Golden Gloves and CYO tournaments. He had ability and was a good prospect but never made the big time.

No I never did get round to writing to The Dangerous One. Im sure he wouldnt want to talk with me under normal circumstances, but as he is refined to a cell most of his day maybe he is due a long rambling letter from The Overhanded One.
Anyone remember his current prison details?
A fair few of Leons pathetic 90s misadventures were filmed, although i've never seen Houpe listed. Im sure if video does exist, its a far more disturbing viewing experience than The Exorcist Uncut.
