Manager Jose Nunez revealed to Fightnews that an explosive showdown between his fighter WBO super featherweight champion Joan Guzman (27-0, 17 KOs) and WBO lightweight champion Mike Katsidis (22-0, 20 KOs) is now official and will take place May 26th in Anaheim, CA. The bout will be for Katsidis's world title and broadcast on HBO. After weeks of negoiations, a relieved Nunez got the result that he wanted. "I worked around the clock to get this deal done and I'm confident my fighter will become a three-division champion come May 26th. I am also proud to announce that Guzman's protege from the Dominican Republican, hot featherweight prospect Argenis Mendez will be making his televison debut on undercard of Miguel Cotto/Zab Judah June 9th." Mendez, who is also managed by Nunez, will be in opening bout of the pay-per-view telecast.
I have seen Guzman fight a few times and he is a good fighter, Katsidis will need to be prepared for a long fight but im sure with his power and size advantage he can win this fight.
This will really put Katsidis on the radar of other top fighters if he can win,
Katsidis KO in 6-7

I hope you are right, have seen Guzman once or twice and I realy cannot see what all the fuss is about.
Katsitis is strong but IMO still untested, Gannoy was giving him a good fight untl it was prematurely stopped.

Guzman is a very, very good boxer. I was there to see him take on Barrios, he came out like a frieght train stunning Jorge but then when he thought he was on top he decided to stop throwing punches which I thought cost him the fight, however thats not how the judges saw it. Either way Guzman is heads, shoulders, knees and toes above anyone Katsidis has faced to date. A short while ago Guzman was touted as the one to beat Pac man. Now that is a pretty big call!
I wish Katsidis all the best, I hope he learns a lot and produces a top performance.

That fight between Guzman and Barrios was very close, I think Guzman did enough and boxed extremly well, I give Katsidis a chance in this fight as he is a big Lightweight and will have a big advantage in size and strength.
It wouldn't suprise me if Guzman did outbox Katsidis early but i honestly think in the middle rounds that Katsidis is going to land some of those bombs and really trouble him.

Don'y you just love the wayfighters notch up 'world titles). Three division n Champion Pleeeeaaaase!
I am going to make a statement. If Tony Mundine was boxing today he would have won four titles for various organisations (at least)
Middleweight, super middleweight, cruiser and light heavy.

I see were your coming from but Guzman is a really talented fighter, With all the belts available today it is far easier to become a 3 division champ as it is easier to become a champion in any division.
Tony Mundine wouldn't beat Taylor so he couldn't be a 4 weight champ today, I would have doubts about him beating Calzaghe and Kessler also.
Dont get me wrong Mundine was a superb fighter who just failed in his biggest fights.

You're right in that Guzman Barrios was a close fight that could have gone either way, like I said I was impressed by Joan untill he stopped throwing punches. Katsidis will always have a chance with his punching power and the scenario you sugest could well play out if Joan decides to shut up shop toward the end again. Guzman has decent power but of course it is untested at lightwieght so it is almost a classic boxer v puncher fight. It will be interesting to see who prevails...

That is a pretty big call Grant, Tony was a good Commonwealth fighter but I agree with Ben that even with the prolification of belts today he would struggle to step it up and achieve the feat you claim.
