Is Manfredo in over his head?

Will it be a similar fight to Calzaghe-Lacy I wonder?
I just get the feeling this fight is being made for money, and for Calzaghe to make an impression on HBO, being shown in USA etc.
Manfredo has never fought a fighter anywhere near Calzaghe's class/level IMO. Hell, Peter does not even look to fighting in the most appropriate weight category. Calzaghe appears to be the much bigger man.
If it is a comprehensive beating by the hands of Joe, then who is most likely next?
Don't know why, but I just get the feeling that we may find out that Manfredo is way out of his depth come April 7. I hope not. I hope it's a competetive fight, but I can't see it to be honest.

I think the bookmakers odds tell the story. Most fights are exercises in futility. So your typical sports network show where you know who's gonna win before a bell even sounds.

Way over his head...BUT, I doubt it'll be another performance on par with the Lacy fight. Joe will find it hard to get up for this one, he'll be looking at this guy as a near novice really, and by all accounts, Manfredy is pretty tough.
So along with those fragile hands, this could go the distance and might be a more two sided than the Lacy shutout.
Next up has to be Kessler - he's rated alongside JC now, so no excuses, and with that HBO money, and Frank saying he wants the fight too ( I can believe it as well, there's not a LOT to lose at this late stage of Joe's career ) look for FW to dig deep and bring Kessler over here.

I think Manfredo is gonna gain a lot of credibility and popularity by giving Calzaghe a good fight, though I think he'll be stoppred in the late rounds.

I think Manfredo Jnr is a built up made for TV opponent. I never watched the Contender but the fact he was eliminated in the first round and reinstated then still didn't win basically tells it's own story. And by all accounts his dad sounds like a bit of a tool as well from what i have heard/read about him.

Is Manfredo in over his head?
Clearly - the only way he wins is if Joe breaks BOTH hands....even if he has only one arm (a la Sakio Bika) he still wins easy.

I think you means Evans Ashira, unless he did it v Bika too, I didnt see it. Seems like the only time he didnt injure his oh so fragile hands was when he hit Lacy over 300,000 times (by compubox numbers) and still couldnt stop him haha.

He's over his head yes, but the danger is that Joe often performs down to the level of his opponent and if he comes into this fight too cocky he may well have more trouble than people think... then theres always a chance of him injuring a hand... I actually think Manfredo will give it a good go and may well last the distance in a more even fight than many are expecting...

In the likely event that Calzaghe does fight to the level of his opponent then I fear we may be in for another sloppy, dull points win for the Welsh fighter.
I just can't get excited about this fight, not yet anyway.

I seldom get excited about Joes fights to be honest, they usually have 'foregone conclusion' written all over them... and we wonder why Boxings become so marginalised!!... dont get me started!!... :x

Looks like an classic Calzaghe fight against an overmatched opponent while marking time for a 'super fight.' I, for one, have grown sceptical it will never happen.
Calzaghe TKO in 9

.
Joe Calzaghe is wasting his time fighting Manfredo in Wales. It might be worth his time in the States, but a win over a reality tv star in Wales will mean nothing

You know what, whatever you say about manfredo(and I personally think, like most of you, that he's not a worthy challenger as say a carl froch) he's really raising Calzaghe's profile. I know a lot of non-boxing fans who liked the contender and will be watching the fight just because manfredo is fighting. Just this morning I asked my housemate if he was watching the calzaghe fight and he replied "Well maybe , but I definitely wanna watch that fight with the guy off the contender.....Manfredo." Me: "Manfredo's fighting Calzaghe you dumbass!"
