WBU and WBF belts et al have devalued and diluted the British belts. Just more and more titles endlessly, no wonder people turn their noses up at the game. The blame rests on British fighters, managers, promoters and the BBBoC for allowing these bollocks titles to be competed for within our shores.

Terence i know your post was not meant to be an anti-WBU rant and i respect that. So allow mine to be an anti-WBU rant. The WBU like countless other Boxing "organisations" are a pile of shit. They devalue genuine titles like the British for example and give some fighters a false sense that they are a world champion when really they are competing with blood, sweat and tears for a title made up by some sweaty fella sitting in a shed in Cambridge.

The fact tv stations like ITV keep mentioning them, calling them world titles and bringing them up only gives more credence and credibility to these organisations who are -to be blunt- wrecking the game. And for the record the "main governing bodies" as they are called are only fractionally better.

That's what i think of the WBU. £750,000?? That is the biggest joke i have heard this year!

The WBU are a farce and unlike the WBO haven't even showed signs of improvement.

I wish the BBB0fC could outlaw them completely from the British Isles. I think Japan only allow WBA and WBC titles in their council.

Sportsnetwork would have a fit if this ever happened seeing as Warren's outfit look to dodge as many competitive contests as possible.

They used to forbid WBO title fights in this country when they first came about. Think they changed their mind when they realised how much money they can make out of Watson/Eubank/Benn.

Thw WBU are the biggest joke out. They are just a tool of Sports Network, its a shame that Warren keeps using these joke titles, as it has robbed the fans seeing great domestic match-ups for the lonsdale belt.

Terrence - where and when was the WBU up for sale? I remember Boxing Monthly (I think) reporting that it might be, but didn't hear anything else. There isn't a link or something is there? Cheers

I know the 'main' four are not perfect but it be a start if they were the only four!

Why the hell would anyone want to buy a governing body which doesn't even have any champions aside from 'world champion' Takaloo and Derry Matthews!

I remember James Toney dissing the WBO title of Eubank and then proceeding to pick up the WBU 175 lb belt and defending it 7 or 8 times, until he lost it to Griffin in their rematch.

Griffin quickly vacated it thereafter.

Why doesn't Warren buy the WBU?

It seems only in europe where its the 'main 4', as so many crappy fighters cannot compete for anything better/maintain long dodgy reigns other than with the WBO belts.

Perhaps a European started calling it the Main '4' and it seems to have stuck on a wider level, regardless if some don't agree...

I'd like to see less governing bodies myself but som good champions hold the WBO belt such as Taylor, Calzaghe, Calderon and Guzman.

WBO gained allot more respect with the likes of Hamed, Barrera, Delahoya, Both Klitchkos, Darius Michawski, Calazage, Eubank, Freitas all been world class belt holders. Hopkins and Delahoya unifying with the WBO was a landmark for the belt too.

With the WBC looking very corrupt with its strippings the, WBA having about 10 champions per division and the IBF been around for less time than WBO, the WBOs has risen somewhat in prestige.

They actually apply quality standards there.

As far as I know, the only belts you can win in Japan are WBC, WBA, OPBF and Japanese.
