Chauncy Welliver vs Colin Wilson

by Chauncy
Hey guys. Me and my promoter, N2Shape have been trying to set up a fight between myself and Colin Wilson.

I was just wondering what everybody thinks of this matchup? Or if Wilson has anything left in the tank.

I'm no great fighter, but a fight with me and him in New Zealand should be good. 2 imports, ranked in the World, fighting in a 12 rounder of a fight that should be a good one as both of us throw many punches and keep coming forward.

Anybody seen the both of us have an opinion on who they believe will win? :box:

I think you would win by a wide UD, Wilson is tough but is easily outboxed.

:TU: Thanks. I have only seen his fights with Nathan Briggs and he look sot be suited for me. Should be a good fight though as he don't move to much. I hope he takes the fight. I know he will be a great 12 round test.

I have never seen you fight Chauncy, only ever read about you on here, but i can tell you Wilson is a very average boxer who has lost to Bob Mirovic. I will never tip a fighter who has lost to Mirovic...

Is there any chance you would get this fight televised if it happens Chauncy? I was also wondering how many fights you have in the works at any one time?

Cheers.

As far as TV is concerned, really not sure what Craig, N2Shape is working on.
For fights in the future, I try to book as many as possible as boxing dates come in waves it seems. I hate passing a fight in case the one planned on doesn't happen. For instance I have about 4 fight from now til August.

I haven't seen any of the Mirovic and Wilson fights, but I remember Bob telling me he thought I would win. Hope so!

Col Wilson is still fighting? Though he was going to retire. Basically the guy has no talent at all, he just gets by on his experience and craftiness, which in many cases will get him a win. He's harder to fight than it looks, he knows every trick in the book. But that said anyone with some good skills will be able to get by him.

Incidentally, tell your brother Dewey that just cuz' he's got an iron chin he does'nt have to show it off every fight, blocking and slipping are allowed in boxing :D

 I tell him all the time!
Dewey does got that iron chin, and balls of steel, but a brain the size of a peanut. He'll stand in there with the best of them. He's sparring Mayweather now.

As far as Wilson goes, I hope for this fight to come off. He shoul dbe tough, and I have never been in a hard 12 rounder, so I can't wait. :TU:

Gotta back my boy Chauncy in this one! He's the only guy who has come out and said he'll fight the best in Australasia be it Meehan, Cameron, Mirovic or Wilson. The only problem is the "best" dont want the test. Cameron has turned us down 5/6 times!

I hope to get Wilson in the ring with Chauncy, Colin's a tough dude and fights everyone! Like Chauncy has said it'll be a good 12 round test for him, hopefully we can do it for the OPBF title also!!

You'd get a belting Chauncy.
I'd come over with Kid Coalminer to make sure.

Chauncy would need to reside in NZ continuously for 12 months to residentially qualify.
OPBF (President - Frank Quill) unlike PABA etc is very strict on this.

No doubt Col & Chauncy would be a good battle.
But, as I said OPBF will not be a go. 12x3 South Pacific title will do. No sanction fee involved.

I am a resident of New Zealand, I just can't stay for long periods of time as I make my money over here in America. I am a Kiwi, by law, just that I spend half time here, and half time there.
We were approved by the commission to fight for the NZ title, and under rules of the OPBF that if I am approved to represent a country, New Zealand, by the commission then I can fight for the OPBF. :TU:

Chauncys right, he's listed as a New Zealander in the WBO Asia-Pacific rankings where hes ranked #1! Ahead of Shane Cameron, Kali Meehan and Peter Okhello.

Hell we'll throw the South-Pacific Title in there to if theres no fees.

Yea i saw that yesterday. Oleg will no doubt have to much for Col, but I hope he goes well, and gets a good payday he deserves one!

And of course if he does pull off an upset Im sure Chauncy has no issues with being his first defence of the title!

Just out of interest Chauncy I would like to know if you a have a long term plan for your career? Is there an opponent (or belt) you are working towards or are you just looking for the best fights possible at any given time? I applaud you for having a go and never shying away from a challenge but just wondering if there is a ultimate goal?

Cheers.

To be honest, there is no final destination in my career.

Here's a small story that will explain my goals in boxing.
When I was a kid I would go to this plae called the Eagles lodge with my dad. When we would go through the locker room there was this guy, just an old guy, same as everybody else in that room, but everybody treated this guy with so much respect. This guy was like a king, and I remember one day me dad leaned over and said, "He fought Sugar Ray Robinson"! From that point on, that guy was the coolest guy in my book. I never knew his name, and he may have been 0-100, but he fought a legend.
I want to one day walk in a room and have somebody lean to their kid and say I was a former fighter that never turned down a challenge. :)

That's the guy! That was when I fought Wesley Martin. I look young in that photo compared to now.

I have always wanted to come to Aussie and fight, and in my times in New Zealand, I have been offered plenty of fights over there, but the timing is always bad.
I was actually supposed to fight King Kava for the IBF Pan Pac title, then he went and got stopped by Izon.
I was there helping in a corner in the Gold Coast, and I loved that place. Hope to make my Aussie debut soon. :TU: :D

One thing I have to say is Chauncy is the best and easiest professional fighter to deal with!

No names but when you have guys who are 8-7-1 and going no where asking for NZ$20'000 to fight on a local show in Auckland then you'll no what I mean!

It's just a keep busy fight. I have offered to fight anybody, and if anybody does accept, either the money is way to little, or it's to little of notice.
I just don't wanna get rusty for when I do get the call.
I would like to fight Colin Wilson, Shane, Cameron, or Kali Meehan. Big Bob was a player I wanted to fight, but he has been getting beat up as of late.

Shane Cameron is the fight I really want, but me and him have sparred, and he wont fight me due to that.
