Was a good sized man, prolly had alot of decent skills, but his biggest wins were against B and C level guys and seemed to never quite get over that 'hump' to the next level. The guy was knocked out by Tony Tubbs pretty early, and if Tubbs could knock him out early, I'd suspect that he probably couldn't take it too good.
Looking at him, he reminds me in ways of Tommy Gomez. Good sized fighter, punched real hard, good skills, but never quite got over to that next level, and eventually just fizzled out. This seems like what happened with this guy.

He was a Tyson lookalike but didnt really box that well, had decent power. Biggest fight was in 90 taking on Carl Williams for the USBA title. Williams took him out in 5, without too much trouble, he was relegated to journeyman status afterwards.
He actually went the full 10 with Tony Tubbs.
Oh and Tubbs had good power, ask Bruce Seldon, or all the guys he decked/knocked out.

I saw Bowen as an amateur and pro. He was managed by a Cuban American named Joe Hernandez who is a straight up manager. Melton had a half brother -Ian Ford- who was a gutsy but limited lightweight. Bowen was strong and had a fair punch but his chin was vulnerable and his speed was average. He did a lot of gym sparring with Robert Daniels and Jose Ribalta. He seemed easy going and soft spoken and early in his career was fairly disciplined.
