since sprotty KO'd audley we have heard stories of how sprotty was hurting audley badly in sparring down in the west country a few years ago but was sworn to secrecy.

what other examples of gym talk have we heard that we believe to be true ?

I'm sure someone on here claimed that Sprott also flattened Roman Greenberg in sparring. I can easily believe that.

Well you never know but heres a few:

Vitali kd'ed by sparring twice leading upto a fight with Rahman

Valero held his own against Morales before Morales decline

Lennox put down by Ruiz - not so sure on that 1

Mayweather handled Corrales in sparring

Mayweather got beat on by Spadafora in sparring - vid to prove it but it did look like Mayweather may have been practising his rolling on the ropes routine. (plus he'd been out the gym for a while)

Delahoya doesn't allow sparring partners to land anything full blooded

McCall send Tyson to hospital a few times

Witter outboxed Hamed in bodysparing - not sure I believe that as Ingle maybe hyping his fighter up.

One that did go around a bit, but was clearly B/S was Jeremy Williams flooring Lewis prior to Lewis vs Holyfield 2. That was mentioned in the documentary.

Joe Mesi flooring Lennox Lewis in sparring. And, to top that, he took all of Lennox's punches without buckling.

Class. You cannot do the petulant stuff Williams did to a fighter getting ready for a huge fight.

I'm sure Lewis would have had Zero trouble knocking Williams into the middle of next week if he put some serious punches in there, Williams wasn't exactly the sturdiest fellow in the world.

Oh yeah, the documentary was for fight 1. I think the rumour was also going around BEFORE the kung fu incident - cause Manny used it to get Lewis up to giving him a kicking. Nasty.... but needed.

I actually felt a bit for Jeremy Williams there.... yes, what he did was out of order and Lewis couldn't afford an injury. However, I thought Lewis showed "bully boy" tendancies in the sparring and I think gave him a bit more than one or two slaps. You don't learn from that kinda sparring and I thought both parties were a bit out of order. Lewis seemed to be very close to flat out pummelling Williams IMO.

Barnesy is hardily a Wayne McCullough type trainer though is he?

I read the Vitali knockdown in sparring rumours in BN - I must say these had passed me by at the time...I just can't believe it.

Was that last week's, I missed the issue.

Well, Vitali has been out a while, and who knows, maybe he was off balance. A lot gets made about knockdowns in sparring, but I think most of the time it's just the sparring partner getting excited about seeing their employer tumble over, rather than someone getting sparked by 16 oz. gloves.

No Jim, it said Vitali got put down twice back in 2005 whilst sparring for Rahman and one kd did the damage to his knee. And you're right of course - lots of stories are embellished, angler and fish stylee.

Williams putting Haye on bandy legs with a jab to such an extent sparring had to be stopped for the day.

Ah yes, that story, I recall now. I have my suspicions as to what all that was really about, vicious rumour of course, but Vitali's frame just a couple of months after retiring certainly fuelled my suspicion about him using various 'enhancements' during his career.

Much like Chavez was all over Mayweather though much of Spads work wasn't getting through Mays defense. Spad was given a gift draw against the best fighter he faced in Dorin (the guy Gatti ko'd in 2 with a bodyshot)

I don't the anawer but didn't Sugar Ray Leonard get either KO'd or Knocked down heavily in sparring by???? can't remember, i know it was for one of his later fights

I think it was Frank Fletcher when Sugar was training for Hagler... he was supposedly floored 2 times during his training for Hagler...

Yeah it could have been, but i also remember reading that a young Pro, or a Soon to be Pro did a number on him in sparring and he was pulled out and sent home.

Yeah, he was supposed to have had about 2 twelve rounders which were treated like proper fights... which was likely when the knockdowns occured... no wonder Leonard didnt look rusty when he fought Hagler...
