I TAKE IT WE ALL WANT CHAGAEV TO SLAY THE BEAST..?

How good would it be for a 230 lb 6'1'' HUMAN sized boxer to bump off the circus attraction?
I know Valuev isn't useless, but he is also not very good. Christ how long can his Stay of Execution be delayed? Gift nod over Donald, a closer but lucky nod over Ruiz, and then 3 of the crappiest set-up defences of all time.
Chagaev is old school sized, and has a decent amount of everything. Nice style etc, i really dont see how a good solid guy like Chagev could possibly lose to the Sigmund Roid (Briggs) or Oleg Maskaev.
I also like his chances v Klitschko. I really hope Chagaev finally ends this bigger is better giant sized heavyweight madness and returns things to the norm.
Do we like his chances?

I'd love to see a guy that is say shorter than 6'3 beat Valuev, would be classic. Like Rocky 4!

Interesting fight this one... a bit of a test for value who hasn't really looked impressive since being the champ. Infact, I think he might have come a cropper vs McCline.

OMG finally. I never said it but i agree. Barrett and McCline were both pretty shopworn (and not that good to begin with) but yes McCline started throwing some nice leather back but got the freakish injury.
I would have loved to see how that fight would have played out. McCline looked like he was taking his last chance by the horns.
Damn.

was a shame what happened to McCline. but with the talent (or lack of) in the division Valuev's reign could be a long one. sadly. here's hoping Chagaev can get the job done.

I am a fan of 'The White Tyson' - been keeping an eye on his results ever since that headline grabbing win of Savon in the amateurs.
I for one would love to see him do it but the size and weight he is going to have to deal with could severly hamper his style.
He isnt a huge puncher so I think he will have to look to beat the giant with counter punching and volume of work - here is hoping he can do it!
Having said that, if the Giant were to win do you think a match with Klitschko could be in the offing? That would be a huge match in Germany and would be a stunning visual spectacle, with the 6'6 Wlad being dwarfed by the Russian..

Styles make fights and i dont think Chagaev can win this
He is a volume fighter with not much pop to his shots....

There's only two ways to beat Valuev, one is with a massive baseball bat, the other...seriously though, you've either got to be a fairly tall rangy mover with good enough boxing skills to keep the big dreadnaught ambling around ineffectually, a bit like a younger Larry Donald.
or
A fairly big lump yourself, with hammers in your fists, and enough speed to capitalise on the lumbering great apeth's glacial movement, like Vitali...perhaps.

I don't mind Valuev, he's taken his career out of the freak show it was early on and beaten some good boxers, of course he's got a huge size advantage, but thats not his fault, and he makes the most of it.
Wins over Vidoz, Levin, Ruiz, Barrett prove he can fight, and he's taken some shots as well.
I think Valuev will win against Chagaev, it won't be pretty , but valuev will come out on points.

Very hard to get an idea what'll happen here. Could be the best Valuev has met, in a long well managed career, but they're pretty crafty in making the Valuev matches so far, and maybe see this as a winnable fight for him with that mile long reach.
Like what I've seen of the Russian though, a no messing around character.

I personally don't think John Ruiz fits into either category, but did enough to keep his title. I scored it a draw giving the close rounds to Valuev.

I've always thought that Tony Thompson would have the beating of Valuev, he's a tall rangy boxer , who likes to fight behind a decent jab. Moves round the ring well, and has a decent chin.

In and out is the way to beat Valuev IMO. Just as Ruiz fought but maybe just with a little bit more "in" than "out".
There a tall rangy boxer, but being a tall rangy boxer is no good for Valuev IMO cause they wouldn't be rangy enough.
The guy might not hit hard for a 300 pounder, but he hits hard enough for a "normal" heavyweight to cope with. A jabber who takes a few from Valuev will start becoming reluctant to do anything (as Donald did).
A prime Holyfield would have had a field day with Valuev, and Tyson would have loved it aswell.

I dont think so, ...may the best man win imo, at least Nickolai is active and fighting quite often, he gets a lot of bad press but is a decent fighter, if he beats Chagev (as I think he will) good on him... there should be an elimination tourny with all the champions fighting each other, thats what boxing needs... Valuevs size isnt damaging boxing its the multiple titles thats doing the damage... at least Valuev is a recognised figure and brings some people to watch the fights... if he emerged as the best of the champs then good for him...

Although, I do like Chagaev, I honestly feel Valuev is to big 4 him.
I like the fact Valuev fights often even though it's questionable opponents.
The Klitschko Brothers are the only HW with the tools to get the job done conclusively. Peter has a punchers chance but can he reach Nicolai's chin? Im not so sure! Also, Ive seen Valuev take huge shots and not even blink and his work rate is nothing short of amazing 4 a 7'er.
I believe Donald beat Valuev, but it was close and in Germany! Valuev beat Ruiz, but it was also close.
For the sake of the unification and HW div, I hope the Russian Giant or Beast from the East wins clearly and then takes on Wlad Klitschko. If Valuev does win clearly, he will have mine and most of the boxing communities respect as Ruslan is a credible fighter. For once!!!!

Chagaev is a class above. But he's too wide. At barely 6 foot does he need to be 230-lbs? Couldn't he have been a 200-lb cruiser for instance...

Is it possible to get this fight live in the UK?

The Beast always comes across as an amiable decent fella to me, i hope he winas. His record isn't the worst out there and both Ruiz and Donald fights were close. Long may the Beast's reign continue, including a win over Chagaev tonight

He looks like a middleweight in there. Hard to see how he can even get close to that giant chin. Valuev comes over as a decent sort, so wouldn't mind seeing him continue his run, though it'd probably be better for the sport if the Russian wins in spectacular style, as most will view the giant as a sideshow, rather than a true heavyweight king.
Things will get interesting for the winner though.

Valuev 319 lbs
Chagaev 228 lbs
The big man is carrying around 7 stone more.

Chagaev Is limited In skill but strong and he likes to get close and rough you up.
Sadly I think he will be made for Valuev due to Nicolai being too big for Chagaev's style.

What people are forgetting here is that size is often a disadvantage rather than an advantage... look at all the giants of the past who failed... look at the trouble Nickolai had getting people to take him seriously... the truth is that Valuev has shown that he has decent speed and skill for such a big man and also good stamina and a good chin... these are all attributes which he has despite his size not because of it...

I'd say his chin has only looked good because no one has an easy time reaching In with enough power.
Chagaev doesn't have the speed or headmovement Ruiz had when he outboxed Valuev either.
Chagaev's good on the Inside but Valuev can spoil that with size and holding.
