What is fWank's next move?

Apparently ITV were non too pleased with a certain farce a week ago. Also, they wanted 5 mil viewers if they were to renew the boxing contract. They only got 3.9. Damn shame you didn't put any FIGHTS on bar 3 or 4 all this time. It's always gopod to build success up rather than turning ppl off.
Anyway, what happens?
Does Frank get prevented from polluting UK terrestrial screens?
Does Frank get tarred & feathered by boxing purists?
Does Frank have to negotiate fight by fight with Sky?
Does Frank take his stable to Setanta?

fook knows were he will go but if you can attract 4m people someone will want you
personally i dont think itv will sack him off they will just tell him they want better matches and if they dont get it then the will do one

Like allegedly TV (literally?) Could be a money spinner, but can't see it being a good move for the fans. It would surely be a subscription service for a start. We'd probably have to pay £30 quid a year for the right to pay £15 a month to watch Khan win the WBO interim title.
I'd love it if there was a dedicated boxing channel in general (ie. not just Frank and the tripe he serves up.) Live weigh-ins, interviews, press calls. That'd be fornicating excellent.

The Calzaghe card could be the straw that broke the camel's back. I'm no SN hater, but afer serving up three atrocious mismatches like that you deserve to be jibbed off. And they'll be even more fvcked if they actually start trying to charge people to watch.

World Boxing Council (WBC) President Jose Sulaiman has slammed undefeated World Boxing Organization (WBO) Super Middleweight Champion Joe Calzaghe.
Joe, 43-0 with 32 knockouts, is boxing’s longest reigning champion with 20 successful defenses during an almost ten year run. He recently defeated US contender Peter Manfredo Jr, at the Millennium Stadium. But in doing so he fractured a scaphoid bone in his left hand.
From his Mexico City Headquarters, Sulaiman took his own crack, by dismissing Calzaghe. He said: “Mikkel Kesssler, from Denmark, who’s WBC and WBA Super Middleweight champion, could tie up his left hand and still defeat Joe Calzaghe!
“I don’t want to hurt the British fans, who believe in Calazghe, but he’s been led in his career, by defeating many second and third rate fighters. He’s never really met a first rate fighter!
“Kessler (39-0 with 29 knockouts) , is not a first rate fighter- Kessler is a Super Fighter, and Calzaghe would never even dream he could defeat Kessler. I also don’t think Calzaghe is ready for Kessler. Calzaghe’s chance against him would be slim and none!”
Joe’s Promoter allegedly was seeking out a unification bout with Kessler. But Kessler’s Promoter explained that he would not be ready and prepared by July, which is when Joe is planning to fight next.
Another possibility is WBC Middlweight Champion Jermain Taylor. allegedly’s offering him 1.5 million pounds, and then bumped it up to two million, for a showdown with Joe.
However Sulaiman is pouring cold water on this too. He said: “Jermain Taylor should NOT fight Joe Calzaghe, because he would be giving away a lot of weight. Taylor is a natural middleweight. He’s also a very good fighter and a very good champion. He has no reason to step out of his division.”
One of the greatest fights of Joe’s career was against US muscle ripped Jeff Lacy. But Sulaiman questioned Jeff’s tag of being a quality fighter by commenting: “Quality with asterisks!”
Sulaiman would be saying the same thing If Joe was wearing their belt.

Would ITV listen to the fans like us on Boxrec though and do what Sky did?
It took Sky 9 years to stop the FW madness, I'm not sure ITV will stop the mismatches sooner.
Personally I hope he stays on ITV though and wish the other promoters would try and go to ITV, boxings not that popular on Sky's friday night fights.
Least Hennessy tried I guess but he's got a better stable of fighters now so he could try again.

I think with Hennessey, he put on the worst opponents for his fighters, Barney and Kotelnik hardly being men you can shine against. Then ITV didn't want them.
According to that Express guy ITV may already want out. Seems it was more to do with getting only 3.9 mil of a desired 5 mil audience, though.
If ppl let him get away with it he will continue to make money from mismatches: Frank knows how to provide little bang for his bucks. That's why the world needs ITV to cut him loose, that's why we should hope to hell that he's not already negotiating with Setanta for an exclusive deal.
Only way to stop the rot is fight by fight negotiations. That way he'd be compelled to put on good fights and some of these would be against fighters from different promoters. Showtime have showed how it's done.

FW says in his NOtW column that Hatton was talked about being on ITV. "Not over my dead body" said FW (or words to that effect) because he has an exclusive contract with ITV.
Joking aside it looks like his back is against the wall again. The "exclusive" deal he made with the MEN to stop Hatton fighting there is now followed by the "exclusive" ITV deal which will stop Hatton fighting on terrestrial TV.
Don't make any more "exclusive" deals please FW. Too much negativity will come back to haunt you.

OK I have done a bit of research. For the Saturday bvefore the Calzaghe fight BBC1 received 6.69 million viewers just after 9 o'clock. BBC News at 10 received 5.31 million viewers.
ITV on the other hand received 4 million for Who wants to be a millionaire at 9 o'clock. Whatever was on after that is not listed in the top 30 shows on ITV that week so received less than 3.5 million viewers. Going through past weeks 10pm on ITV seems a poor time for them.
So 3.9 million viewers isn't poor for ITV. The highest figures they received for the boxing was Amir Khan in his first pro fight with 6.3 million.
What would be interesting to find out is how each boxer rates, whether Khan gets more viewers than Calzaghe.
The real question however is the cost to viewers ratio. If they were hoping for 5 million then obviously they are paying a fair bit and really want better results viewer wise.
So imo there are two options. ITV renew at a lower price or Warren goes elsewhere. Who will pay what Warren wants? BBC won't they have Match of the Day on a saturday night. BBC2 won't. Channel 4 is unlikely to as it's not really their area. Channel 5 is the only other terrestrial but they have CSI which brings them good ratings at that time. Other than those it is either Setanta or SKY. Sky have Football First which is their big saturday night show. So this leaves Setanta or ITV.
Either way I can't see Warren getting as big a contract. ITV have sussed him and Setanta know if ITV won't buy it they don't have to offer big.
It is important to note however that the boxing classes with Match of the Day. Much of the MOTD audience might well watch the boxing if it was at a different time and would boost the audience a bit but this would mean going earlier or later and could again harm the viweing figures, clashing with the likes of Casualty and CSI.
Whatever happens Warren is f****d in my opinion

I know big names pull the floaters in as it were, but the actual boxing audience will watch the smallest names as long as its a good matchup. ITV could tell promoters it will pick and choose who to cover, pay per fight. if the matchups are consistently quality, then they will consistently pay out for them

They say SN's contract is up for renewal in JUNE, which I tend to believe, hence the talk of all these so called super fights in JULY.
I think the issue for ITV isn't the inadequate matchmaking, it's the viewing figures - Although I guess you could say the two go hand in hand.
I'm just wondering if ITV are going to turn their back on Khan after hyping him for his first dozen fights - At the end of the day they have invested in him as heavily as SN have.
I don't believe Khan is lighting up the publics imagination, certainly not in a Eubank/Benn/Hamed way, and therein lies the main problem in my opinion.
As for Setanta, are they really in a position to offer what Warren will want? - I'm not so sure and if they where, wouldn't the Maloney's or one of the other promoters have tried to set that that up while SN where tied into ITV?
Although it would be kinda funny seeing Warren going back to SKY with cap in hand, I can't see that happening either.
My guess is he'll re-negotiate a deal with ITV.
