On the predictable Pacquaio KO of Jorge Solis undercard Arce lost a decision to Cristian Mijares in what could have been deemed an upset. However i expected Mijares to win, Arce to me has always been a bit overrated, he is a puncher and a showman but Hawk Makepula showed with a bit of movement and Boxing ability you can defeat him and Roque Ler was way too negative but he had success when opening out of his shell. Not seen the Mijares fight but it seems the Southpaw employed a similar strategy and won!

The three scores indicated a dominant win. I saw Mijares's last three fights, the two with Kawashima and the win over Reynaldo Lopez and he is a world class operator. Where does Arce go now? Some felt he had an air of invincibility about him, not any more.

Also Brian Viloria lost to Edgar Sosa on the same card, seems Viloria just isn't going to be that good after all.

Arce ate straight lefts all night and looked totally outclassed, It was similar to Calzaghe Lacy for the first 5-6 rounds then they opened up a bit and he still got outboxed.
I would have liked to see Arce fight Darchinyan but after this fight i wouldn't see it going past 5 rounds, Arce is just wide open to straight lefts.

Just like Judah-PBF. They procrastinate so long until one of them gets upset and suddenly the interest dies. Though personally I always had the feeling Arce didn't fancy Darchinyan. A likely averagely paid fight where at the very least he would have to go through hell if indeed he was not beaten which I suspected he might be.

Not too sure why, but I have always been amazed that Arce vs Montiel hasn't happend (yet).

Its a fight that I thought simply had to happen. I suppose its because these two were both, in almost equal measure, touted as the successor to (Ricardo Lopez/Resondo Alvarez) - probably both never quite lived up to their young hype.

It would now be an excellent crossroads fights.

I actually thought Arce would win, I have always been a fan and I thought he looked particularly impressive of late.

I am of the opposite thinking Stu, Arce has always been terribly exciting but i always felt when he faced a test he would struggle. Mijares is world class no doubt and technically very competent, when he stopped Kawashima in the rematch i sat up and took notice, he looked good that night. Sounds like Arce couldnt figure him out, i look forward to seeing this fight.

Did sky show the Pac/Solis fight?

I like Arce but he's always been rather one dimensional and open to being out boxed by a decent boxer... to be honest I've been surprised that he's stayed at the around the top for so long... great heart though and one of the most entertaining fighters around...
