Talk of an offer for Froch to take on Calzaghe in July... A big fight in British terms...

If this fight was to happen, and in the event Calzaghe won, would it help his worldwide legacy at all or would he really need to beat Kessler to do that..?

What are others thoughts on this potential fight?

It's a cracking fight and one I would like to see but it does nothing for Calzaghe's "legacy"

I lost all faith in Plank Warren and his SN flunkies years ago, but the thought of Froch stepping up is really, really exciting.

Calzaghe and co have been dismissing Froch for a while so Hennessy is spot on claiming SN shouldn't need options on Carl's career. No way is Froch going to let Warren fudge up his career like he does for all his other boxers.

This will be Calzaghe's biggest domestic showdown of his entire career so there is no way they can claim the fight isn't big enough, and how many other promoters can put up with Warren? Answer : Not many!

I don't think Joe has to beat Kessler. He just needs 1 A-fighter, whether it's Taylor, Kessler etc.

Another top British foe would be great, and Froch fits the bill. Or a fight with his 1st ever quality mandatory, Inkin, intrigues.

Sadly, Inkin and Mundine have made zero noise about a Calzaghe fight. I'm disappointed in them.


Right now the Q is, why are SN being all shifty over options? They should be under great pressure to deliver a good fight.

It does alot more for Joes legacy than his fights with Manfredo, Bika, Ashira, Veit, Salem, Mger, Pudwill, Jiminez.... have.

I don't think Warren's making any sense. Tells one paper he doesn't want options, but avoids the issue when Hennessey tries to find out.

I wish the TV companies would tell him where to get off quicker. he deserves to be on the Bravo channel for what he's doing. The guy acts like 21, 22, 23 defenses is enough to make any fight big.

If yet another good fight doesn't happen, do we really believe fWank that yet another "doesn't want to fight."

I disagree about Bika, I think he was entirely credible as a very difficult and strong fighter. Joe did not use the best game plan by getting drawn into a toe to toe battle, but nonetheless he dominated a very credible fighter.

Bika was credible but he put in a poor challenge, which marred his credibility. He is freakishly strong but what happened to his jab? He's now Ring magazine #10 super middleweight.

Joe was partly to blame because he tried to go through the guy and got dragged into a maul.

Froch may not do a great deal for Calzaghe's legacy but he's a damn sight better than some of the corpses that have been fed to him in recent years. Talk of Hopkins, Taylor, Jones Jnr etc has done the rounds for years now and don't look any closer to being made from what i can see.

Calzaghe should have capitilised with a fight in America long ago but sat at home making easy defences against dire opposition. All this "fear of flying" malarky was a big joke at the time but it meant he wasted his prime years.

As for Mundine i am also surprised he has not been talking himself up a challenge to Calzaghe, Mundine seems hell bent on getting Kessler back into the ring again and holds this spurious WBA normal title as Kessler is super champion or whatever it all means. The Aussies have been talking about a Mundine-Green rematch now Green is at Light Heavyweight but Mundine seems reluctant to step up and may see himself stepping DOWN even to Middleweight, all the same who would want to see a Green rematch anyway? Wasn't the first fight one sided enough?

Bear in mind Mundine earns more fighting in Australia than Calzaghe does over here. So that puts him right out of the equation.

Froch is young(ish), hungry, not past his prime, not a pitty pay puncher, a natural super middleweight, how many of Calzaghe's last 10 opponents can we say that about?

I'd gladly tune in to watch the two men fight, but I fully expect Calzaghe to price himself out of it, and instead take on his mandatory who he can pay a fraction of the price to come over.

I really do despair sometimes.

I totally agree and for the record i see Mundine now in his prime. I think he would give Calzaghe plenty of trouble with his speed but he earns big bucks in Oz so probably won't leave. Shame money again.

Mundine has been eerily silent. Maybe it was down to the last insulting offer by the fWanker.

With regards to Mundine, I believe WBA 'regular' champions cannot unify with other beltholders. So either Mundine has to give up his strap, or Calzaghe has to drop the WBO. How likely is that? Not very, I suspect.

What's 'Choc' been smoking, eh? Kessler’s been avoiding him? Kessler did a job on him. A couple of wins, albeit good ones, and Anthony’s mouth becomes loose again.

Always makes me laugh when someone, in this case Mundine, claims that a fighter, Kessler, is avoiding him even though he lost handily to them in the first place.

"Ducking" and "avoiding" are two of the most overused terms in boxing at the moment. There's definately a good case to say Calzaghe is avoiding Kessler (and I think he is) but not Mundine, not yet anyway.

A guy on the other forum put up a list of people calzaghe was supposedly ducking which inclued guys like Kelly Pavlik and Edison Miranda who had never even fought at 168 and James Toney who had his last SM when Joe was an 8 fight novice fighting Trevor Ambrose.
