Just a note to let you know that I've made more updates to my Max Baer website at: http://www.maxbaer.org.

* I've added quite a bit of interesting research material covering Max's fight years after the Joe Louis bout.

* I've added more material to existing sections.

* I've added a slew of answers to new FAQs questions. Keep those questions coming, guys !

* I've added about 25 more photos to the photos page, including:
- very early fight poses and fight scenes
- advertising items
- later in life images.

as you know I also like your page a lot. I've a couple of well-intentioned comments though to make it more user friendly.

First, the white on black looks good at first sight, but after a while it is unpleasant and tiring to read. I suggest to change this to something more eye-friendly

Secon, the more material you put on the side the more difficult it becomes to navigate through. I suggest to induce a third level -- for example have "frequently asked question" in bullet point form and the answers pop up when one klicks on the question. Also, it would be great to have separate pages for Max' greatest opponents, their careers and their fights and relationship with Max in- and outside the ring. One for Frankie Campbell, one for Earnie Schaaf, for Primo Carnera, Max Schmeling, Jim Braddock, Joe Louis, Tommy Farr, Lou Nova, and Tony Galento.

Finally, I'm yearning to see the clips but I'm lacking the software.... I've never seen the battle of the Maxes in full, for example.

I appreciate your suggestions ! I was just discussing how to break the site up with someone else too.

I'll have to rethink the black on *actually its* light grey text, thanks.

I like the FAQ idea, thanks.

I'll have to think on the different pages for different fights idea. I'd rather devote my limited time on finding yet more info on Max, rather than lengthy research to add info on other fighters. Do you think there's enough info on each fight situation, as is, to dump the info onto separate pages now ?

Lastly, just go download the browser Firefox Mozilla to view the clips. Firefox is MUCH more safe, stable and easier to use than Internet Explorer. I've been trying to figure out the javascript code to get the clips to play in IE without success. I'm thinking I'll hire someone to write it for me.

I always get more and more impressed with this site as time goes on. As I say I love Max Baer, and I may be biased, but in the words of Joe Louis:

"This man could have been the greatest of us all..."

Despite whatever criticism, one thing is for certain, you rarely RARELY ever saw Max Baer in a dull fight and I still say, had he existed today, could you imagine the publicity boxing would get? He would be the biggest star and would certainly have cleaned up the division...boxing would win the PPV wars against the UFC and WWE.

Someone better build a time machine quick! I wanna see Baer vs. Klitschko! lol

And yes...that would be a good idea for you to do. I think maybe after careful analysis and disection of the whole scenario, maybe Maxie's Gal can write a article herself about the whole 'mishap'.

But then again, if we want to point fingers at big name boxers losing to novices and the like, what of Randall Tex Cobb losing to Dee Collier by knock out? Or Archie Moore losing to a few less than stellar opponents?*

Shit happens. Alot of things can be explained.

If it was an exhibition, it shouldn't even be regarded on the site, least this site, as it only does professional bouts...but then again they do have the '26th' title defense of Joe Louis on this site as well

Anyways, I think a decent analysis of that particular bout, should be shown from both sides, or all angles, as you just said ("LNWS", L, EX). Like I always say, somewhere between the extremes lies the truth.

Thanks Hank, I always appreciate your kind words. I agree wholeheartedly, I think the 'public persona Max' was ahead of his time and people of today would love him !! To me, too many boxers of the last few decades garner attention because of their negativity and eff him, eff that, every 2 sentences. For example, even though Mayweather had some terrific moments vs. De La Hoya, he was such a slug on that HBO 24/7, in the end I couldn't stand him another minute and really wished he'd get his butt handed to him on a platter.

So since the guy I posted my "site re-arrangement" questions to hasn't responded, I'm curious what you think. Should I split up "The Man" page into several pages or leave it as is ? What about the text, too hard to read ? Other areas with room for improvement ?

Lastly, good news ! Its not a done deal, but a PBS station located a few hours north of me is doing a segment on Max Baer and after visiting my site the producer has asked if I'm interested in being Max's 'biographer' for the segment. Cool huh ?

most of the traveling circus shows were 'athletic shows', often having professional wrestling as well on cards. Jack Johnson and Jimmy Wilde and a few other notable boxers fought on athletic shows...it's hard to decipher whether alot of these were pro bouts or just simple exhibitions, I guess you can make the case for both sides.

I'd consider alot of them to be on the level of a 'Toughman' contest. Call it semi-pro, call it what you wish.

I would like that very much ! I would like to put it on my FAQs page, with a good leading question, then I'll credit you. I must ask to provide me with reputable references you use as the basis of your opinion. I don't put a thing on my site unless I have at least 2 solid sources to back up my words.

The questionable bout is the September 18, 1936 bout in Cedar Rapid, Iowa correct ? Where they didn't know whether the guy was Willie Davis or Art Oliver. I looked through some newspapers at the time and found 1 article online about the fight but so far to me the whole issue is still confusing.

As far as the site goes, I like it as it is, but I think a continuation page of the 'Max Baer: The Man" might look more organized if you did break it up into two/three parts.

The photo album is my pride and joy. Over 200 photos and more coming. I usually wait until I get about 25 new photos before I update the page. My particular current favorite is the one of 20 year old Max in his first professional boxing pose, just before he stepped into the ring again Chief Caribou. I mean look at the fire and determination in his eyes, his whole future is before him, Frankie Campbell is a nightmare yet to happen.

A copy of that group photo is available as a regular weekly item on eBay. Let me know if you'd like a link.

ROFLAMO... I was so excited, so honored, so worried !! But then I thought, I may not be a boxing historian, but exactly who else has developed a cradle to grave insight into Max, so I thought, why not me ?! You can bet if it happens I'll be getting plenty of copies. I may even put it on my 'clips' website, eh ?

I like the 2-3 parts idea best. Should I just label them 'Part 1' 'Part 2' etc. or maybe by decades or ???

Yay, quotes are fixed. I unchecked a couple boxes in the preview.

No worries, I've found that roughly 20% of my daily site hits are from repeat visitors and roughly 50% of visitors favorite the site. There is a ton of information, too much to take in unless you have a few hours, but darned if I can stop adding more and more ! =)

The focus of the segment is going to be Max outside the ring, but yes I plan to tie in if at all possible. That damn movie is what prompted me to start the site in the first place !

You'll have to keep us all posted on the segment on PBS on Max Baer so we can all be tuned in. Myself I would also love to see RINGSIDE do a special on Max Baer, but I'm afraid ol' Bert Sugar would probably take a shit on Baer as he has made numerous references to what he deemed "cheese champions" after Jack Dempsey/Gene Tunney (Schmeling, Sharkey, Carnera, Baer, Braddock) and before Joe Louis came around. Which is entirely unfair.

No Baer wasn't a great champion (today he'd probably unify all four belts in a years time without breaking a sweat), but as far as a HW, he is in my opinion quite high on the all-time HW list.

It is very odd that the fictional Hollywood establishment would choose to totally falsify and blacken the entire existence of a character as likable as Baer, and one about whom information is easily available.

That is disgusting, and the incompetent "writers" and director who did that should be slammed at every opportunity for their poisonousness and incompetence.

LOLOLOL, yes I noticed in ESPN's discussion/documentaries that Burt would kinda rush through any sections on Max. Burt has some interesting stories to tell but he talks over some of the other less pushy commentators who I think have just as valid things to say. I would love to see a Ringside on Max Baer. Wow, 2 to 6 hours of just Max Baer stuff would be my ideal !
