ODLH V PBF - RESULT

SD for PBF.
Personally I don't think PBF did enough (or deserved) the win. Oscar squandered his early opportunities, failed to capitalize, and then tired. But PBF is such a joke. Super fast, very slick, great defence, but hardly an exciting fighter. Oscar hurt Floyd a few times, but he just didn't do enough. I say it should have been a draw at best. Maybe with a slight twinge of bias (I cant stand PBF!), but I actually had it 7 rounds to 5 in favour of ODLH.

I had it a draw - 6 rounds a piece, but I do think if you had to give it to anyone then the right man won. Mayweather won his rounds big.
Just to clarify my card.
1 - Floyd
2 - DLH
3 - DLH
4 - DLH
5 - Floyd
6 - Floyd
7 - DLH
8 - DLH
9 - DLH
10 - Floyd
11 - Floyd
12 - Floyd.
DLH "famous" fade, which I think only truly occured in this fight - cost him a definate win IMO. But he still drew on my card.
How much did HBO have Floyd up by in the end. Did I here right that Ian Darke claimed that US TV had Floyd up by 5 at the end of the 9th.... Thats astonishing.
I think 1, 10, 11, 12 were definate Floyd Rounds.
2, 3, 4 were definate DLH rounds.
I don't know what this did to each fighters reputation/legacy. Probably ASSISTED DLH more than Floyd's, cause DLH was proving as good (in different ways) to Floyd untill the 34 year old legs started to catch up.
Certainly when both have retired and we asked who would win a prime for prime fight at 140 between the two. I think more would say DLH than would have before this fight.
One thing I also thought was... I'm going to the bookies to lay some cash on Judah to beat Cotto. Mayweather was very accurate (which obviously helped) but also popped with some power. Judah took Mayweather's punches better than DLH.

1 - Mayweather
2 - DLH
3 - DLH
4 - DLH
5 - Mayweather
6 - Mayweather
7 - DLH
8 - DLH
9 - Mayweather
10 - Mayweather
11 - Mayweather
12 - Mayweather
115 - 113 Mayweather
As you can see on my card, I had DLH losing it in the championship rounds when he started to wilt.

Jim Watt didn't actually say it this time, but he often says that ring rust does effect you late on in fights (cause your not relaxed early on). I wonder if it was this/age or a natural stamina fault that caused DLH to definately wilt. Still not enough on my card to lose his title (I thought he won the 9th)
I've just been on the current scene and they are having a massive go at the fight and the performances of both guys. I thought it was engrossing - not a classic. But a fight I would love to watch again.
I think DLH did enough, and made enough errors that even tired he could have altered down the stretch (where did his jab go), to suggest that a less rusty version can do it. I don't think he will, but I wouldn't be that surprised.
I think this is a more interesting rematch than Barrera vs Marquez (and thats interesting enough).
Sounds definately like Oscar will be back.... great at the moment he's still up there in the P4P stakes and a championship level fighter. However, will he keep coming back - first time I thought he might.

I got no complaints about the result, even if it has cost me a few quid
Hoya was in control, and then faded badly through the last 3-4 rounds - Shame really, but I think it's fair to say, we have seen the best of Hoya, and a rematch wouldn't tickle my fancy at all :)

DLH was outboxed from when his knees got buckled. Simple. Floyd had to win like that and win he did. Tough fight for him, but right result.

I had Mayweather winning by a couple too.
I think he won the fight pretty much the only way he was going to win it, stay in the fight and stay competitive with Oscar for the early part, then take over down the straight and dominate in the late rounds as Oscar inevitably tired.
De La Hoya showed he still has plenty left and is still world class, but Mayweather showed the quality he has.
Sure, he's never going to be a Nigel Benn as excitement goes, but you don't have to be exciting to be a great fighter. Can't see why he should be called a 'joke'. It was an entertaining fight in it's own way, I thoroughly enjoyed watching a fight between two great fighters, trying to 'out strategy' the other.

Yeah, calling PBF a joke was a bit strong, but I posted pretty soon after the fight and emotions were running high! Floyd has skills, I just wasn't that impressed overall, expected more of a fight from him - but like you say, he figured that was prob the best (or only) way he could take Oscar. C'est la vie.

Probably a daft question, but I'm interested in this. Why would you expect 'more of a fight from him'?
Mayweather has never been an in your face fighter, he's always been clever defence, quick hands and movement. He was moving up in weight against a great fighter, it's not as if he was suddenly going to stand and trade punches with De La Hoya. What he did was what he always does, in and out with the jabs and quick counters, but I give him huge credit for being able to handle himself in there against a fighter such as De La Hoya, at a weight which is ideally too big for him just now.

Clearly the right man won. DLH needed the last 3 sessions but just couldn't keep it going. With hindsight it was a bit much to expect 12 consistent rounds from him.

I was just glancing at the end rounds on those cards and I'm just amazed that Kaczmarek could have given the tenth round to De La Hoya!! Some rounds were close, and could have gone either way, but that wasn't one of them for me.

Mainly cos Floyd said he was gonna destroy Oscar.

Entertaing and engrossing fight I thought,
I had it.
Mayweather Jr 116 - 113. But some of the round were close so I can understand if people had it scored different by a few points. The De La Hoya fade at the end cost him the fight, a combination of age and stamina I feel.
Mayweather Jr proved what a talented fighter he was but didn't dominate the fight enough to call himself an the All Time Great he says he is.

Come on, that's just pre-fight talk and hype, part of the selling process. That happens everywhere. Did you seriously expect Mayweather to be going toe to toe with De La Hoya, trying to knock him out in under six rounds??

Well I knew he wouldn't be reckless, and I knew that it was a part of the hype machine, but still, I did genuinely think that he try and take Oscar out. Like I said before, Floyd did what he had to do, but it was hardly exciting stuff on his part. Oscar got it right (post match) when he said if it wasn't for him hunting down Floyd, there wouldn't have been a fight at all.

As much as I like De La Hoya, he was talking bull when he said that and trying to grasp any straws that he could. There is more than one way of fighting rather than coming forward and trading, just ask Willie Pep (god rest his soul).
As I mentioned earlier, what did people expect when watching Mayweather last night, everyone knows how he fights? After 37 fights did you really think he'd change his style that drastically and go out to try to KO a great light-middle?
Even then, it's not as if he danced and ran all night, he was planting his feet and digging in some good punches late in the fight, and it was De La Hoya whose legs dipped during the fight, so Mayweather was obviously connecting somewhere along the line.
Going back to my first paragraph, fighting doesn't just mean coming forward.

I was watching with the sound off and had De la Hoya winning by 3 rounds.
Mayweather did not do enough to win the fight,he had a great last 3 rounds but come on he did nothing much before then.

I had De La Hoya winning, 115-113, his work in the middle rounds was consistent and effective enough to have him pulling away as Mayweather relied too heavily on single shots for me.
I had Oscar 4 up with 4 to go, gave Floyd rounds 9, 10 and 11 which he took fairly comfortably, which made it all to play for in the 12th.
The final round was close but I favoured De La Hoya again, and looking at the scorecards 2 of the 3 judges gave Oscar the 12th, including the judge who had Floyd winning the fight comfortably.
A good engaging, fight and De La Hoya's tactics were excellent. Regardless of whether you think Mayweather won, it was a disappointing performance from Boxing's supposed pound-for-pound number 1.

Mayweather by 2 rnds but i was bloody tired and must have had a gallon of beer so I may have it a bit wrong - Anyway I enjoyed it, good fight - DLH lost pace towards the end which put Mayweather ahead on points.
