A FIX!

A barely casual boxing fan, he thinks that it was rigged for Mayweather to win and said so beforehand. So when Floyd get's the win in a close fight it just confirms his beliefs in his eyes. "Told you. Boxing's a fix. Golden Boy won there" he says. Another fan lost.

Forget the fact that it was on Oscar's Promotion and he doesn't even watch 1% of boxing fights, it's all a FIX! I myself thought Mayweather nicked it in a hard to score fight, no controversy in it really, De La Hoya didn't do enough in some of the rounds, stalking but not throwing jabs or many power shots, we got the odd flurry on the ropes now and again. My thoughts in most of the rounds was "Oscar needs to throw alot more especially those combinations" because when Oscar did unload Floyd went into his defensive shell and didn't throw back on alot of occasions.

Anyway my friend saying boxing is a fix annoys me a bit, theres just no explaining that scoring is subjective, and one judges opinion can be completely different to anothers sitting on the other side of the ring. Some can like the flashier more frequent punches, some the harder eye catching punches, then theres defence and ring generalship etc.

Anyway Boxing is a FIX !

On small hall shows, some of the fights aren't 'on the level' and thats all I'm saying, but here is a clue... boxers who fight each other from the same gym.

In the build up to this weekend I spoke to a number of friends and colleagues who informed me that they were big boxing fans. this was good news to me as I only know a couple of people who I would call true boxing fans.

then the bubble burst as one friend told me

"I can't wait for Hatton's upcoming fight with Jose Mayorga"(??)

and another said:

"I'm a big fan of Lloyd Mayweather"(!!)

..back to the drawing board.....

I had a conversation with a guy that said he was into boxing and was actually at a gym preparing himself to "go pro". The dude is in his mid 30s, but just wants to give it a go for himself, fair enough. So...

I start talking to him about boxing and he has no bloody clue what so ever. I even talk about Naseem Hamed, then 2 minutes later he says "who was that really good Indian guy in England? Used to flip over the ropes, beat everyone?", I said "yeah, think you're talking bout Naseem Hamed."

I was pretty lucky, I made my friends fill out application forms to get on the guest list...

I even had an extra guest at 8 this morning when my neighbour came downstairs and questioned my exquisite manners, apparently his family hadnt got any sleep and he wasnt at all grateful when I put 'Acrobat' by U2 on at full blast...

I got asked by a chap yesterday who was the 'Heavyweight Champion that retired undefeated years ago...?'

Upon answering Rocky Marciano (the hugely obvious answer) he looked stunned at me knowing this fairly basic question and informed me 'I knew my boxing'!!!

My point is that there is a number of people who think their boxing experts but in realtiy, have barely a clue.

Im the only one of my mates whos into boxing (got the bug off my uncle) and they do not have a clue. one stayed up to watch the fight with me and watched two rounds of the bautista fight, said 'im bored' and went off to sleep?!?! unbelievable....

of course im one of those people who watch all the boxing i can get my mitts on, but still.... it wasnt sleep inducing

Boxing has a long and complex history with regards to 'fixed' fights.

Ken Norton vs Jimmy Young.
Muhammed Ali vs Sonny Liston 1&2.
Henry Armstrong vs Baby Arizmendi 1&2.
Jack Johnson vs Stanley Ketchel.
Tommy Burns vs Jack O'Brian.

Are some of the more famous ones whom some think one or both fighters were in on the fix.

Some may well have been a total fix or just 'half worked' etc many not. There are probably other fights everyong assumes were legit but were not.

take your pick.

There is very few fights that have been fixed in my opinion.

With correct matchmaking there is no need.

Has Lloyd Mayweather retired then or is he coming back to fight Michael Cotton or Dicky Patton?

Does a fight with Pete Buckley constitute a fix in the context of this question?

The Buckley's, Hines' Booth's and Stricklands of the game CAN fight, its just that they are put in with prospects who are genuinely talented, they are put in to ectend them and give them hard rounds (Booth i think KO'd one the other week) so it cannot be that fixed
