A Great Day For Boxing!

Well Star City was a success! The place was packed, there were literally thousands of people there watching the fight on numerous screens. My mates and I secured a lounge seat each in front of those massive screens in Trophies. The Atmosphere was awesome!!! The telecast kicked off with the fantastic back and forth scrap between Bautista and Medina. It really got the blood pumping in anticipation of the Main Event. Then Rocky did what he had to do to win in a slightly less exciting affair. During that fight most people were discussing their thoughts on Mayweather De La Hoya anyway...

Then it was time! The camera showed a close up of The Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather. A roar echoed around the casino when the camera zoomed out and showed a member of Floyd's entourage putting a sombrero on Mayweathers head and revealed that it was Mayweather who would be wearing the Mexican Red, White and Green! This was a nice touch by Mayweather, clearly aimed at getting in the head of De La Hoya and the Mexican fans on their special day. Floyd looked confident as 50 Cent rapped him to the ring. De La Hoya was next. If I thought the cheer for Mayweather was loud it was overshadowed by that for Oscar! He walked to the ring with his now trademarked jaw flexing. It was obvious the occasion was not lost on either fighter. Months of waiting were over when the bell finally rang. It was evident that De La Hoya was the bigger man but it was just as clear that Mayweather was the better boxer. I'm sure you all drew your own conclusions from the fight and as usual my mates and I kept an 'official scorecard'. Each fighter has his moments but it was Floyd who was more accurate, defending whatever Oscar threw at him and then shot back with his own brand of offence. Our 'official scorecards' had Floyd the winner by a range of 4 to 6 rounds. The incomparable Michael Buffer then hushed the crowd when he spoke... The first judge scores it 115-113... De La Hoya! Mayweather was clearly puzzled knowing he'd done enough to win; the crowd in Star City looked on with equal amazement dreading a bad decision that would only be bad for boxing. The second judge scores the bout 116-112... Mayweather! Phew a bit of relief but the third score was to still to come. The third judge scores the bout 115-113... (Star City went silent; my heart was in my throat) Mayweather!!! Relief, excitement and joy are just some of the emotions that washed over me! The right man had won! It was the culmination of the biggest build up a fight has ever seen. Finally a fight (and the result) lived up to the expectation. It was a great day for Floyd, it was a great day for me and it was a truly great day for boxing!!!
