Aussie Forum Boxing Fans Opinions on ODLH v PBF Fight

I thought it was a very close fight and that it was going to end with a draw or swing slightly Oscars way. But I guess not.
IMO it was a snorefest, but what else would you expect when you have 2 of the very best boxers fighting each other ..... it was going to be hard for either to land a good clean punch that dazed the other for a second or 2.
But I'm sure now, PBF would have been eating his words, after he bignoted himself at the press conference....

I had it a draw also, I watched it again on the replay and thought that 115-113 for Floyd wasn't a bad result though. In my opinion it could have gone either way and Oscar can be proud that he went so close even after only fighting twice in 2 years.

If you are up for a read on my thoughts check out this thread:

I had Floyd a close but clear winner. You may not like him but you HAVE to respect his ability. He has no doubt cemented his legacy. Oscar had every advantage (weight, ring size, gloves, etc), so he lost on his own terms. Credit where credit is due people!
In no way shape or form did I think it was a snorefest, I loved the fight! It seems that not many people can appreciate a defensive marvel these days. As I keep saying the idea of boxing is to hit and not get hit! I think Floyd is the best since RJJ!

PBF didn't look like a defensive marvel to me.
Anytime DLH attacked behind a jab, PBF looked terrible. It's a pity DLH was knackered after 6 rounds. The rippling abdomen would look good on Muscle Beach I guess but it didn't equate to any sort of stamina on his part in this fight.
I hate to imagine what a SRL would have done to PBF at 147.

I cant argue with Mayweather winning there 2-3 rounds that could have been scored either way, I gave 2 close rounds to Oscar simply as he was pressing the action. I could easily see them being scored for PBF but.
It was a great fight and i had a good day watching it.
If only all fighters these days were like Oscar and tried to make the big fights this sport would be far more popular than it is at the moment.

I had it a draw as well. Can't complain with it going to PBF.
I would have liked him to show a bit more class in victory but we are talking about the 'pretty boy'
Money doesn't equal class I spose

I was quite distracted while watching the fight initially and as yet haven't had a chance to watch it again, but my first impression was that PBF won the fight. I've never been impressed with Oscar's 15 second flurries where he lands 1 or 2 weak shots and outside of that he really didn't do much other than straight shots from Floyd. I'll be watching the fight again either today or tomorrow to score it and will post my impressions after that.

DLH 115 PBF 113
But i was happy enough with the decision. i still think you have to do more than pbf did to take champions title off him

Floyd landed something like 100 more punches than De La Hoya! 10 second flurries of ineffective agression isn't enough to keep your Title in my book. It was a close but clear victory to Mayweather IMO.

Them numbers are bullshit, Ive watched the fight 3 times now and a lot of Floyds punches hit gloves and deflected. I agree Floyd landed more but most of them were from round 9-11 and it dosnt represent the entire fight.

If you are gona say a lot of Floyds punches hit gloves, you should mention that most of Oscar's hit air!!! When he decided to throw in those 10 second spurts he was lucky if he landed two shots...
Either way I'm glad you agree that Floyd did enough to win
Lets just hope we can have more close superfights to discuss in the near future. Winky B-Hop should be a good one to kick us off

I think the problem was that Oscars misses were obvious, Floyds amazing handspeed made it almost impossible to tell whether it landed or not.

PBF 115-113
DLH got a lot closer than I expected. I would hope that PBF will keep fighting, there are some very good match ups out there.
I don't know that he has anything to prove, except he needs to beat an opponent of the quality of DLH in his prime, no matter what he does those that don't like Floyd will never like him.
Would love to see Floyd fight a bloke like Cotto or Margarito (although I think he'd easily beat Margarito)
