Greatest Briton never to fight for the British Title?

Just checking back on the record of Eamonn Magee... up untill tonight he has never FOUGHT for the British title. WBU shots, Commonwealth shots, EBU shots, Irish titles.... yes, but never a lonsdale title fight.
Its got me thinking, who do you think is the best British fighter never to have FOUGHT for the title. Magee (untill today) must have been a pretty reasonable canditate.

Oh I forgot, Naz didn't fight for the British title - just European and World.

Boxings Greatest period - overall, and especially for MWs.
the UK's No.1 Contender - 10yrs and at 2 different weights, MW & L-HW
fought more L-HWs & HWs than any other British MW including the Britain's Top 3 HW's...
the MOST FEARED, DUCKED & CHEATED fighter in British Boxing History, Scotland's BERT GILROY.
also, credit where it's due, the very capable and exploited Len Johnson...
