jersey joe walcott vs turkey thompson 1946

what a fight this would have been, two top contenders of the 1940s. Walcott esentially cleaned the entire heavyweight division out 1945-47 and beat all the top dangerous black heavyweights except TURKEY THOMPSON, the one guy walcott failed to fight. thompson was one of the most dangerous punchers of that era and proved it with countless kos over ranked contenders including a 1 round demolition of elmer ray(who beat thompson in a 6 round fight year earlier).
the best heavyweights of the mid 1940s(outside of louis) were turkey thompson, lee Q murray, jimmy bivins, elmer ray and jersey joe walcott. all happened to be coloured.
5'9 215lb Powerful Punching swarmer Turkey Thompson vs 6'0 195lb master boxing cutie/puncher Jersey Joe Walcott
who wins? I think this is an outstanding matchup too bad it was never made
heres my opinion- I believe thompson would come out smoking trying to take out walcott early with his devastating power of his. but walcotts no dumbie, hes faced huge punchers like gomez, ray and hatchetman and he knew he had to survive those early rounds so walcott would do his waltz and stick and move thudding his hard jab in thompsons face and doing his cute tricks to run away from thompson and weather the early storn. in the mid rounds walcott would start to open up more, confusing thompson with his upperbody moves and feints and drawing him into counterpunch traps(thompson had trouble with movement), and walcott would floor turkey a couple times with sharp counter punches. turkey would get and finally began to land some as walcott confident would start to brawl a bit more, and turkey would badly stun walcott a couple times with left hooks while walcott with walcott moving out of range to clear his head and he would start habbing again and would land his jab at will forcing turkey to be concerned and clueless trying to work his way inside. walcott would have to be careful cause though turkey was 5-9 his long octupus arms at 77" reach would pose threats to walcott at all ranges turkey would do well in the clinches with his size and bulk but walcotts tremendous strength would keep turkey from manhandling him. walcott then for the rest of the fight would continue to lay traps for thompson and thompson would fall right into those traps. thompson would work the body hard and try to land the homerun punch but he would only be met by walcott jabs and sharp counters...late in the fight with thompson now completley befuddled by walcotts footwork, traps, counteres, outclassed and no only looking for the knockout punch while far behind on the cards......walcott would open up barrage of combinations and finish turkey off with a left hook. it would be better fight than expected.
Walcott KO 13 thompson
sorry no film of thompson on youtube( there is some out there) but heres some film of walcott near the time the fight would be happening
