Despite getting knocked senseless by Sprott, I think a rematch is not so clear cut. Audley could still beat him if he boxes behind that jab like he did for the first 2, although his chin is really crap.

After Mormeck, I'd like to see Haye/Audley just for laughs.

I think Audley's one of these guys that can keep being forgiven by the fickle armchair boxing fans. If he comes back and does a number on Sprott, then he will still be able to get away with hyping himself up.

If Audley KO'd Bonin in the first round then that shows how hyped up Haye's win was.

it took Z-FORCE NINE ROUNDS to get rid of Bonin, and some argued it was premature. Hows that for hyped? lol

I thought the previous post said
And he beat thomasz bonin (it was easy for audley at 2:17, Haye took 1:45).
So I assumed it meant 2:17 of the first round.

because of skeltons inactivity

im tipping michael sprott as number 1

thing about a force...like guinn and joe bugner ..they all had the physique and the skills to be so much more ...they just didnt have the fire in the belly or the heart to just go out there and let rip

audly did against the un fit williams and look wat happened ?

bugner went nuts on richard Dunn !!!

guinn let loose on michael grant (albeit a sleeping grant) when normally he would have reached out to cuddle him

such potential :(

Hell, even Peter Manfredo made a quick comeback from losing to Calzaghe.

Even if audley has an easy fight e.g vs Paul King or John Mcdermott. Anything to get a few wins, and make his way to at least the british title.

Do you think Warren is holding him back?

Or do you think he is waiting to fight the loser of the Skelton/Sprott fight? (if this is the case then, audley will get slaughtered)
Most of us care very little about Audley Harrison and are quite happy not hearing anything about him - A fighter who says he is going to be World HW champ in one year and then gets sparked out at domestic level is a joke - He wouldnt even make a good doorman you need guts for that job!!

You shouldnt even begin to compare Audely with Bugner... people are always saying that Bugner was a let down and indeed sometimes he was but he still proved himself a world class operator during a time when the heavyweight division was goldplated with talent... could Lennox Lewis have gone 12 rounds with Joe Fraizer??... or 12 and 15 with Ali??.... I think not...
...most of the people that run down Bugner havent even seen him fight at his peak....

Lewis would of went those rounds with a 70's Ali.

If Lewis could be koed by Mccall and Rahman you dont think he could be koed by Ali?.... who stopped Bonavena, Lyle, Liston and Foreman... all of whom had far better chins than Lewis!...

I may have this wrong but didnt a boxer die after a Bugner fight leaving Joe half the fighter he previously was?

That's how the story goes. I think i've read him say as much before.

I think it was very early in his career and it must have had some effect upon him. But I also think he was affected by the bad press and abuse he got after he beat Cooper... when you remember that he only 21 after all. He did get a very bad press imo. Even in his world title fight with Ali which he was panned for afterwards, he hardly fought a terrible fight... they both fought in tremendous heat and at the end of the day Bug gave a good account of himself against an Ali who was in very good shape in that fight... a lot of people overlook the fact that Ali rated Bugner very highly as a boxer and he should know, having fought him twice...

A retrospective on Bugner's career in light of the present day HW scene. Hmmm come back Joe all is forgiven.

But seriously, he did have an unfulfilled talent in a very strong era. I just wish he fell short trying harder, and maybe the respect that was due to him would have been forthcoming during the time he fought.

BTW I didn't know about a fighter dying after one of his fights. I thought that would have been a well known fact.

boxrec wrote:My bad, i thought 2:17 meant the first round (there was no fight info on boxrec, and usually it says "down in 9th round etc). Wow, 9 rounds against bonin. Is Audley is worse than i thought!? :o

I want Audley to do well, but he is so delusional its embarrasing. I do believe he has the ability to be at least British champ.

He's probably englands equivalent of Dominic Guinn. (even though audleys already lost to him)
Audley's record on Boxrec clearly states that he stopped Bonin in the 9th round.

How could you miss that?!

Unfulfilled in what way though?... do you really think that he should have beaten Ali or Frazier??.... the shame of Bugs career is that he lost heart and retired in the late 70s mostly due to the criticism that he was getting... but all in all he had a very good career and came out with all his marbles... can't knock that!...

Yep the crime he committed was beating our 'enry, a crime he was never forgiven for. Perhaps unfulfilled is not the right word, but he certainly had a talent beyond the excellent jab and safety first approach he exhibited throughout his career. Jeez I doubt that even he thought he should have beaten Ali or Frazier. However, he earned well during the pantomime years that his career became.

All in all he had a good career if somewhat unmemorable given his style and how the fights he was in turned out. BTW I am all for any fighter coming out with their marbles in tact and as many bucks as they can grab.

Well Bugner was never going to go out and brawl with Frazier or Ali... that would have been madness... as it is he gave Ali tough fights because of his boxing ability and he had a great fight with Frazier... some of his early 80s fights were disapointing, he should have beaten Tangstead and Marvis Frazier for instance, but he was just in it for the money by then.... mind you he did come up with some good wins in his late 30s against Page, Bey and Tillis... there was even some talk of him fighting Tyson at one point... (before he lost to Bruno)

Audley has done one thing since his defeat to Sprott...

He has moved from Las Vegas to California...

I doubt it'll help much.
