John Duddy last night.

It looks like John Duddy won his final fight in the US (for a while) fairly comfortably last night.

Are the BBC (Ireland) showing this on delay?

I think Duddy may eventually be good enough to contest for one of the titles at middleweight. He'd have to avoid the likes of Taylor who would most likely slaughter him, but I'd give him a shout against Abraham or Sturm. Duddy/Abraham would be a pleasing fight on the eyes.

There is no elite any more. These days any decent boxer can be world champ with clever match making.

You'd have to look up at SUPER middle for the elite. They are a class above in more than one way.

Taylor probably needs a guy like Duddy to make one last cash in!

I agree with this statement. Fighters can win belts, make money and forge some sort of "legacy" these days without even sniffing at the best fighters.

It was another solid performance from John, who i thought might have wrapped it up in that opening round. The opponent, Dupre Strickland, showed heart but wasn't in John's class.

I know that Duddy - well, from what i've seen on RTE - was disappointed about not putting him away. Still, going ten-rounds is never a bad thing.

I can't wait to go over to the National Stadium and watch him fight in July.

It was an awkward fight. Lots of head clashes and the like.

Thought he was a little bit open to repeated jabs and that is something he needs to tighten up. Otherwise good.
