Nicky Cook gets his "world" title shot

Sorry if this has been known for eons and I'm breaking news like a slug at a cheetah's journalism convention, but the boxrec schedule has Cook down to fight Steven Luevano for the WBO title on July 14th.
Good luck to him. He's an-above European operator for my money, and this is the right step. My only grievence, whether right or wrong, is that it's another textbook SN procedure to make one of their fighters a "world" champ. We're never going to see a unification with the likes of John or Larios. Ok, maybe he'd lose, maybe he wouldn't even be offered a unification. And doubtless a run of WBO defences will make him some decent money. But at the risk of turning into Tony Hancock, I just fail to get excited by events like these any more.

You know, I feel so sorry for Nicky. And this is the problem with Scott Harrison's behaviour. It's not only his own life he wrecking, it's the likes of Nicky Cook.
Cook was in a plumb position for a shot at the WBC title, with a reletively weak champion, at the time.
He gave it up for a shot at Harrison, and now he's had to wait for god knows how long to get his shot again. Only it's for a far, far less prestigious title, against an unknown.
Good luck to him, and shame on Scott Harrison

Completely agree. I hope Cook goes on to bigger and better things.

Cook is with FW now, expect a long line of tedious WBO defences.
Forget about the WBC

Good point. But Cook/Matthews has some potential in the next year or so. And as they're both SN fighters it'll be tough for Frank not to pull that one off.

Cook's hardly been Mr. Dependable himself though.

Chi showed that cook was not on world competition level...he is a top european level fighter, but won't ever compete against the likes of Barrera, Morales, etc...he does have a chance against Fana....

How exactly did Chi do that?

he's a decent fighter.
bottom half of the top 10 sorta fighter.
the division is a wasteland at the moment and that's why i'd like to see warren go for unification matches for him.

Cook deserves to be world champ, but he is unreliable and never answers his phone....
On the Harrison note, I'd have loved to have seen that c*** have his arse handed to him by someone like Pacquiao....
