Since the next Irish World champion returned home he has been a staple on RTE. The Esham Pickering fight, teh Yauvilov destruction and I anticipate the Walstad match will be also on ROI public television. Thats great for the Irish viewer but are the team missing a chance to create a UK star??

I say they are..plus the team are ignoring the fact that Dunnes has some fans THIS side of the Irish Sea..some of whom feel they are being treated as second class citizens..

It would be nice to see him on Sky, but let's face it, his team have obviously decided to milk the title a bit since he beat Pickering. His next opponent hasn't even been scheduled for a 10 round fight before, let alone 12 rounds.

Hopefully when he steps up in class British tv will show his fights. Right now we aren't missing out on much.

I don't thinks so, ITV only shows warren's stable and sky limits your audience, and you can watch his fights live on RTE over the net anyway

Dunne is Irish, wants to fight and defend his title in Ireland - that is all that matters to him at this moment of time. I was at his last fight and the atmosphere was great.

He wouldn't get that atmosphere fighting over here. I'm looking forward to going back home to Eire for his next fight on June 23, and then Duddy in July.

Besides, i don't think Brian Peters is interesting in making Dunne a UK star - an Irish one is far more profitable. If he was from Northern Ireland, which is part of Britain, then maybe so.

Then again, Duddy considers himself Irish and not British, although i don't want to drag all that up again.

I just had a look at it and while it is free, it says it is just confined to the Rebublic of Ireland?

Dunne is more popular than any UK fighter.

He built up a good fan base while in the US, and has the whole nation of Ireland supporting him, even those that don't follow boxing. He's even fought in Germany and Italy. How many UK fighter have even fought out of their home city/town, let alone in 4 different countries?

Dunne has had more exposure than most UK based fighters.

i think your being nieve there are a lot of british fighters that have and do fight abroard

Exactly what can dunne get in the uk that he cant here in dublin? he has regenerated the irish boxing scene almost single handed and the support he has here is phenomenal so why mess with a winning formula. Rte covered his italian fight aswell and if the british fans are miffed that they are not getting to see the fights then maybe they should speak to sky about paying rte for the rights as the irish channels are available on the system and im sure the lads in rte would be more than happy to stick some sterling in their coffers.

Dunne is reported on be on 6 figure sums for his title fights, not too many current British fighters on Sky can say that. His manager reckons hes the best paid super bantam in the world including the 4 chapions.

From a business point of view if Dunne can earn that kind of money on RTE why would he move from terrestrial TV to Sky?

I would say Hatton is the most popular UK fighter,and easily more popular than Dunne mate

JC also had 35,000 turn out to watch him in Cardiff

Fair comment, Dunne is huge in Ireland andis doing very well for himself, I feel he is being managed and promoted well.

RTÉ always put the fights live on line - I usually post a link here in the days leading up to the fight. The stream and quality of the production in top notch, so if you can put up with Jimmy Magee rattling off the full squad of the Kerry All-Ireland winning team between rounds then it is a very enjoyable experience.

The issue her is MONEYYYYY, Dunne built up his career in the states and then came home to reap the rewards financially by headlining bills here in Dublin. Although there is more money in the states for MAIN EVENT fighters, he wasnt quite at that level when he left for home, with the irish scene in a comatose state on his return RTE took some what of a gamble and have been handsomely rewarded with hugh audiences!!!! better to be a big fish in a small bowl rather than a small fish in a big pond. Due to the free to air coverage of his fights (so far!!) he has courted the general public back to boxing and this has had a knock on effect in sending his profile thru the roof, he is now something of a golden boy for RTE.

As for u brits, I recall SKY going all the way out to LA when he was in the states to do a piece on him VERY early in his career, before any IRISH network even went near him and it came across very well on tv BUT they never took their interest any further and hung their hats on their homegrown fighters (and u cant really argue with this too much) and this has backfired..... There arent many fighters on Skys friday fight night who are better performers or gaive better value for miney than Dunne and im sure they regret not making a committment in the early days. In saying all of that id bet that dunne will soon become too hot a property for RTE to have all to themselves... Any yeah I agree Hatton is a HUGH draw in the UK, the best comparison u can make is the Dunne is to the irish as Hatton is to the brits..

Dunne will be on british screens sooner than people think.
