What did everyone think of Friday Fight Night's delayed showing of Abraham-Demers, Huck-Tokarev and Povetkin v L'Heureux?

I was very pleased with it. There was a TON of world class talent on the show. Abraham showed continued improvement. Huck won a 50-50 fight going in (I had him 8 rounds up after a weird if dominant showing). Povetkin COULD be the future of heavyweight, and his continued combination punching / compact punch delivery are very encouraging.

There were also two other young fighters whose names I can't remember. There was a ton of raw world class material on this show. Thoroughly enjoyed it and hope Sky give us consistent coverage. Between them and Eurosport delays we could have a fairly comprehensive picture of the thriving German boxing scene.

Very good substitute for Hatton.

Looks like we're getting that Sylvester / Berrio / Asikainen card next which sounds good to me.

Due to superior TV coverage in the modern era Boxing is becoming a world sport! We get to see these fighters on a regular basis, in sharp contrast to the days when we only saw Graciano Rocchigiani when he fought Eubank or Gianfranco Rosi..oh, we didnt get to see him :(

This is a major problem for the domestic promoters, the fights they put on are under more scrutiny

Its like Football in the 80's you got one 1 match a week 'The Match' at 3-0-clock on Sunday..you would just watch it even if it was awful!!

Now you get so much more..if a match is crap you turn off, IMO thats a perfect analogy!!

It was definitely a quality show from top to bottom, it did really put what passes for an allegedly card on ITV to shame really...

A full two hours of boxing entertainment !!! Good throughout - Even the bouts at the bottom of the undercard were very good to see - FW eat your heart out.

One gripe - during the 10 pm showing we had some horrid picture problems. Pic kept freezing and clicking and it only happened during the fights, not in the studio so I presumed it was Sky's fault. However I caught the 2am repeat and it was perfect.

Top quality stuff. Hope to see plenty more of this.

Yet if you refer to the other thread stating Sky are a bag of shite, you have two contrasts here.
They're doin ok - but some armchair fans will never be happy.

I had these problems also, but you get them on all channels from time to time, why I dont know, you didnt used to - I get a message saying "scrambled or bad channel" and the only thing you can do is wait and hope the channel comes back - The longest transmission break lasted about a minute, annoying but thankfully it didnt happen at a vital moment.

Was a good card. I like to see Poetvkin v Barrett.

I thought it was a good bill. Abraham looked good, Huck got a terrific win, and even though L'Heureux wasn't up to much, Povetkin looked the business.

The highlight, for me though, was the Karo Murat-Mustapha Stini bout. Those Stini left hooks were hilariously wild.

i thought it was something to do with the german feed, as the 'clicking' happened during the fight action only particularly transitions from 1 camera angle to the next...but then again, i saw it repeated and it was perfect

Since it wasn't live, it wasn't a feed. Sky would have purchased a tape of the show from ARD and used that. Break up would either have been bad weather or tape dropout, and it sounds like the latter.

Agree though, it was a class bill. Warren should go over to Germany and get a lesson in putting on value for money shows....and pigs might fly.

Germany appears to have a very good reputation with regards to their Boxing shows.

Did Sky do any buildup for the German fighters? ARD showed a 20 minute promo behind the scenes for the 4 main event boxers, which they always do. Captain Hook in full get up aboard a ship ( shiver me timbers! ) and the story of Abraham's comeback from injury.

huck-tokarez aside.

it was a bunch of showcases really.

no different to some of the stuff warren has been putting on.

abs opponent was sub par.

povetkin's was rubbish.

murat's was even worse.

but it showcased a lot of talent. there is a genuine sense of purpose to that sauersausage card. povetkin has a serious test next - barrett - and many feel he'll be the kind of heavyweight we've all been waiting for. a future champ who throws fast combos and has killer instinct. abraham has fought ikeke and miranda - he's an improving champ and there should be a better opponent coming up soon though they have to stop feeding him light middles. the card def had one real matchup, and huck surpassed himself...huck has an IBF shot at Fanningham

Dont forget that Frank came within a whisker of signing the talented Povetkin - he even prematurely announced his debut for the Hatton v Tyszu card in his NOTW column. I was really looking forward to that!

I think he'd be facing another guy with Gun(n) in his name!

With regards to Povetkin: Who here thinks he will win a world title before the end of 2008? Because I think he's the business. I know L'hueruex wasn't up to much, but I really don't think his handlers are going to fornicate about with him. I can see him beating up Barrett next, and beating one of the belt-holders within 12 months.

It's amazing to think he followed Audley as Olympic champion.....

oh yeah sure.

i agree that abs has had some excellent tests and povetkin is being moved very quickly.

i was just saying that i felt the rest of the card was largely no different to some of warren's cards.

i think he'll win a title.

i expect the division to pick up with the return of vitali klitschko.

alex p will win a version of the title.

povetkin was a dominant fighter on the super heavyweight amateur scene.

audley generally fell short when it mattered.

olympics aside of course.

never was sold on vitali. he went away having done NOTHING. avoiding even rahman! ring mag embarrassed themselves 'sanctioning' vitali-sanders for the world/lineal/main title.

Can you explain tape dropout please, I would be interested to know what it actually means, thanks
