I have really enjoyed watching this kid so far and I reckon he could become a big name in the UK if he is brought along properly

I like the look of him, hes very young so will be brought along slowly while his body develops but is a good addition to the Jock scene

He went life and death with carl Allen on a show in Liverpool about a year ago - No disrespect to carl, whos a gutsy fighter, but its not good form that.

Although he did take carl Johansen the distance did Allen, but then subsequently got a pasting from Chris Pacey, who chinned him good and proper.

Not seen Appleby fight since that night, will have to check his record to see how he's progressed.

Edit, im thinking of David Appleby and it was Peter Allen - got that arse about face.

Paul Appleby is a good fighter, one to watch imo.

I remember seeing Appleby ringside at York Hall assuming he must be some fighters kid brother. So i was pretty shocked half an hour later when he stepped into the ring weraing gloves! Made all the more weird by the fact his opponent was a grey haired man in his 40s!!

Anyways, Appleby had some nice skills, seemed to punch with a lot of weight -definitely not the usual British arm punches- and nice combinations.

Drawbacks were that he got his nose bloodied and the old boy got into the fight at the end. My mate who was with me that night saw his most recent fight on TV and said it was more of the same. Seems like Appleby does get dragged into hard fights against journeymen. Another George Hillyard?

He's got a fair bit more about him that Hillyard - He does bleed easy though and does appear easy to tag.

It's more down to his enthusiasm to get in there and get on with though - I feel that can be ironed out.

You are doing him a dis-service there overhand - he looks both more talented and dedictaed then Hillyard in my book.

He is aggressive and boxes with purpose - he doesnt look to cruise past opponents but make them wilt with sustained and intelligent pressure. Good shot selection and variety of punches.

I like him, enjoy watching him box and think he can progress fairly quickly. Still alittle short on 'man strength' from the looks of it but he likes to mix it up a bit and has obviously been spending a few quid on getting a tan.. Removing himself from his previous 'milk bottle kid' look!

Ye Peter Allen drew with Appleby on the undercard of Mckeever/Asiku,but he didnt take Johansen the distance the fight was stopped in the 8th or 9th round.

Agreed. It was one of the laziest comparisons ever.

I meant both have talent but both seem to have their hands full even at this low level.

With Hillyard its because hes a fat lazy arrogant tool.

With Appleby i think its because hes so young and mixes it up when someone needs to iron out his style and make him box more. Are there any quality british trainers who really can do this with young misguided talents..?

not sure about his defence though.

deffo not convinced about anything beyond domestic class at the moment.

Saw him spar with Michael Hunter a while ago and he has good skills and looks like he can do something. Hunter speaks highly of him and Mick doesn't dish the praise out unless it's warrented. Seems like a decent lad as well as had a drink with him after one of Michael's fights recently.
