There has been plenty of doom an gloom about the state of British Boxing recently but when I think about it there are plenty of top quality young fighters coming through!!

But who is really earmarked for sucess?? Who has struck a cord with with the posters hear...on the other hand who may just be a flash in the pan??

Some names to conjure with..Anthony Crolla, Denton Vassell, Nicki Smedley and 'Boxing News hot Prospect' Kevin Buckley..

Any other names I may have missed??

small guy from birmingham with muslim name, still amateur i believe.
Won the world champs under 17 a couple of years ago.
I think he won the ABAs too this year.

He is very good, apologies for forgetting his name!!

Akash Bhatia looks pretty good thus far.

sam rukondo keeps going about his biznezz tidily and well.

tho of course strictly speaking he is Ugandan.

I dont think they are necessarily the best prospects in Britain but my two faves to watch are Belfast's Martin Lindsay and Sheffield ginger nut John 'Fireball' Fewkes.

I like how they go about the game.

Tipping my hat to another Irish up and comer I would also mention Andrew Murray - I have heard good things about the Cavan prospect and want to see him in action for myself.

Lastly, I have to give a Brummie a mention so (and I know Tom Podmore is high on this kid too) watch out for Chelmsley Wood's Thomas Costello - the decorated Junior amateur just might make a stir as a pro.

Fewky definitely has an outstanding chance.
I would also keep an eye on Josh Wale at super bantamweight.

I am also looking forward to the career of Brummie-based Jamie Cox. I thought he was an excellent, exciting amateur and you can guarantee that his fights will be just as exciting, if not more so, as a pro.

Any info on Cox and how he is progressing Tom?

Danny Harding, Gary Sykes, Brian Rose, Alex Matvienko, Stuart McFadgen......plenty to look out for

If Kell Brooke can keep himself in shape he's got a good future.

Glyn doing it right with John whose still got more gears than hes shown. Glyns also got a novice Heavy who in 18 months is going to excite people.

Glyn Rhodes is a top guy, and I am desperate for him to train / manage a headliner with a meaningful title as reward for the years of dedication he's put in.

trouble is, most of the guys mentioned are powder puff punchers, i like guys who, as well as having superb boxing skills, also posess the equaliser.

of those mentioned, i think perhaps kel brook has the most potential, but lots of potential is reached on the scales and in the kitchen, before it is shown in the ring !!

That's the problem, British fighters never have the ultra silky skills you need to be top class if you haven't got somewhat of a punch. Even Hatton can dig a bit.

Mark thomson...... he is has good skil, good management, good sparring and has downy power

fighting for central area soon

smedley perhaps has the potential to be something special, ive seen him fight live once and was fleet of foot and silky, but no power, im told he has been working on this and planting his feet a bit more. some 'movers' find it hard to be punchers. unfortunately, as you step up in classs your chin will be testeed, this is when you need to earn an opponents respect by hurting him with your power, very very few guys win world titles or are on the fringe of things without real power.

Kevin Buckley has boxed both Crolla and Smedley and is in no doubt, Crolla is better than Smedley...

Havent really been sold on Smedley yet, the (admittedly) little I have seen of him.

Will be keeping an eye out for Crolla - I have seen clips of him training on youtube and he looks like he has skills..

Jamie has put the disapointment of missing his debut on the Sprott Skelton bill behind him and is back in training for his first fight on the Khan Limond show.Shown lots of character to just get on with it and is looking good in the gym.
P.S Tommy Costellos next fight is on july the 13 in birmingham,after that "The natural" is going back to the states for some more sparring at gleasons.

james degale - aba champ and commonwealth bronze medallist.

he's the best amateur prospect right now.

I hope he's better suited to the pro's than he is the amateur game. A lot of talk about nowt in the vest.
