Where does this leave both fighters?

I guess Castillo would be right back in the mix with the elite fighters, while Hatton would maybe have to contemplate retirement?

Hatton won't retire. If its competitive there will probably be a rematch. He may have a couple of easy comeback fights. Or jump in there straight with a big name like Cotto/Mosley/Mayweather. He may also go after Witters WBC belt. Going after the IBF/WBA/WBO would pretty pointless

NO, If Castillo wins good on him, hes a great fighter..if Hatton loses he has lost to a great fighter, no shame in that(though I may have to take a week off work with depression)

One defeat and he may have to retire And we wonder why British fighters are afraid to 'lose the O'

I agree. Castillo has an absolutely formidable record. 2x lightweight champ. If he wins the Real/Lineal/Proper light welter he's a hall of fame cert. Steady beatdowns of Julio Diaz (vacated IBF titlist) and Juan Lazcano (favored to beat JLC). Catching up with elite class southpaws Stevie Johnston and Joel Casamayor in razor close affairs (W12, D12, W12). Going, in the eyes of many, 1-1 with Mayweather. Blowing out massive Cesar Bazan in a brawl (a former WBC titlist still in his prime). Contesting the best fight of this generation, vs Corrales and despite losing by TKO, he would have won if not for the gumshield spitting and in effect hurt Corrales so bad he finished the guy's career at top level.

There have been asteriscs against him. i.e. the shockingly poor fight with Rolando Reyes, barely beating Ngoudjo, looking bad in many non title fights, coming in gleefully over the weihgt and blowing out Corrales early, and the weight dramas that plagued anyone who seemingly came in contact with him and Corrales...

But there is good and bad in all fighter's records. Castillo's been fighting beneath his healthy weight for years. As far back as '03 he had sights on Tszyu, but the Mex favoring WBC offered him a vacant title fight with Lazcano. An offer he couldn't refuse, even if he had to "cut off an arm" to make 135...

I have to say, JLC may be the best pure pressure fighter of this era. Despite lacking speed of hand and foot, he's been able to cut the ring down on some slick movers. The fact that he was drained in many fights has allowed him to become a MASTER of pacing fights and navigating the 12 rounds on a less than full tank. On top form, he makes every punch count and has that ominous up/down, head/body rhythm.

This guy's career has been a pleasure to watch. Castillo is why I'm tuning in.

Hatton shouldn't retire if he loses, because it will damage his legacy badly. He's still living off one win at the moment, because no one will remember any of his other victories. Win or lose he needs a couple more big fights.

After the first Corrales fight, I felt Castillo should move up to 140-pounds and gun for Hatton or Harris. Turns out, it could have been a very smart move for him.

That's why it is a good fight.

Nothing worse than knowing who is almost certainly gonna win before a fight has even taken place.

Hernan Ngoujdo who was Castillo's last opponent is a dam good fighter, ask any journalist who knows his stuff in the states and they will tell you the same. It seems he will fight the winner of the Paul Malinaggi and Lovermore N'dou fight and I feel he will at worst do himself justice in that fight.

Castillo fought Ngoujdo after nearly a year out and again the journalists in the states were shouting to anyone who would stop and listen, Castillo was in for a rough night, I actually thought he lost against Ngoujdo. But it was a good rough fight maybe not exciting to some.

We then go onto Castillo's pedigree, need anyone say anything else. Whilst he is coming to the end of his career I am sure people are now going to mention his age 33, same age as wait for it Junior Witter.

Bloody hell that means there is no way Ricky Hatton can fight Junior Witter, because they are saying Castillo is past it at 33, Junior Witter is the same age.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing Hatton saying "thanks for the ride" and retiring win, lose or draw vs Castillo. He's had a good career, earned millions and he can get out with his faculties intact.

I'd like to see him on the dinner circuit or even stand up.

I think the competition now at 140 is so void (Witter aside) that he could never achieve true hall of fame status or be considered an all time great and I'm afraid I think all of the champions at 147 would give him a beating, Kermit Cintron aside.

I think even if Hatton loses he still has a couple of good options for big money and potentially winnable fights. It won't be over for him though I do pick him over Castillo (just).

10oz gloves can't be good for Castillo. Ths is a guy who slashes you up inside. He depends upon cumulative effect. Those gloves will blunt him. Perhaps that was why he lacked some impact vs Ngoudjo? Though I'm sure also that Castillo wasn't primed for a hard night that time.

will the 10 oz gloves be any less of a disadvantage to ricky hatton?!?

sure they'll affect him too. but castillo's whole game is cutting and brusing and breaking down in small increments which is more likely to take his edge off.

Castillo is 6/4 to win at any stage of the fight and Hatton is 1/2.

If you want to bet on the rounds there are some very attractive odds knocking around.

You are wrong.

Warren's deal with the MEN was only for so long. Whilst the MEN is a perfect location for Hatton you have to remember it is not the only location where Hatton can fight in the UK.
