Great piece on Andy Lee by ‘The Korean Hammer’ Steve Kim over at maxboxing.com
The experiences this lad is getting are just priceless. I really hope that his enthusiasm and dedication are rewarded with long-term success.
As a prospect he hasn’t blown me away with his ability/performances but I am hoping he can develop into a complete fighter.

I've seen Lee once or twice and he looks pretty good so far. Not a superstar in the making for my money, but he'll be pretty good. He's got a typical upright European style, but Steward seems to work with a lot of boxers who fight that way, so he's probably got the right trainer for himself.

i've met him a couple of times, and sawe him fighting amateur and on the Kilitschko Brock bill in November. He's a nice guy, and he's got a lot of talent. I wonder if he's ever gonna be a 'star' on a world scale, as much for marketability as ability, but as an Irishman it's great to see him doing well and I wish him all the best.

I reckon within the next 2 years, we'll be seeing a stadium show in somewhere like the new Landsdowne, featuring Dunne, Duddy and Lee all headlining.

Think in a year or to he is gonna be very big. A very good talent

nothing against Lee who I'm sure is worthy of the hype, but Steward does sometimes get an unbelievably huge hard-on for his Kronk guys. I remember him saying Klitschko had been watching old Ray Robinson tapes and copying his moves exactly in the gym, lol.

Lee is a good fighter, a bit upright but i am sure Steward will instill some lateral movement and upper body movement to counter this. The way he feinted a jab and turned it into a right hook to fell Carl Daniels was class. He has potential no doubt, same as James Moore.

Great times for Irish fighters, so many talents...Lee could be the best

I still reckon Dunne is the best of the lot. I could see Dunne picking up a version of the world title.

Lee looks good so far doesn't he. And even though Manny spouts a load of BS sometimes, it's usualy over fighters he's been hired to take on mid career.
But he's taken on Lee from day one, and Manny has to be one of the shrewdest judges of ability in the game, so you'd have to reckon there's a massive upside for him there.
Have to wonder how well the tall and lanky Lee will hold up against the divisions big punchers though, still holds his chin up a bit. Monsters like Pavlik will be hard to get past that's for sure.
Seems to hit pretty hard though, I saw him take out a guy clean with his left hook, then check out this 30 sec clip of his eye poppin KO of Daniels, with the right hand.

For what it's worth Lee has been handling Jermain Taylor in sparring

Is that because Lee is that good?
Or Taylor is that bad?

I've been impressed with Lee so far, looks to have a good variety of punches, and has a decent dig, although he's not the KO puncher some think he is.
Also he's getting excellent sparring with Taylor by the sounds of it. I wouldn't read to much into the talk of him handling Taylor in the sessions though, as its probably more of a case of Taylor not going at full pace.

When does he ever go at full pace?

when he is in a real fight with a legit foe...aka hopkins, wright...his pace against ouma wasnt that bad, but
the spinks "fight" was worse than a sparring match!!
His pace for Hopkins was terrible.... It was a snooze fest. If thats him at flat out, then Arthur Abraham is going to have a field day.
The only time he has looked remotely impressive was in his losing (IMO) effort vs Wright.
He shouldn't be champion, IMO (and the opinion of a fair few others) he should be 1-4 in championship bouts.

hopkins make everyone look bad, but he did even less than jermain in either fight!! some folks have him 1-1 vs b-hop...i had him edging both!! the wright fight could have gone either way esp. considering winky took the last round off, so a draw is a fair result!!
but to have him 1-4 in championship fights means you have him losing to either
ouma or spinks!! patently absurd!!
I know this thread is older than old but
Did you see Taylor vs Spinks? Taylor was gifted the decision

the more this fight is coming the more iam feeling lee, lees last fights have shown he has a lot, power, takes shoot ,can boxer, can hang in a fight waiting for a shot that can end it. he has one time ko power, bjs i always thought would be world champ. does great in the first half of fights ,like against Ryder, but Ryder come on strong in the last few , same with jr banks eubanks come on strong in the later rounds against bjs,lee has power to stop people and floor them going with irishman ,i think the lee fight with Peter Quillin showed he can trade with the best in the division, bar ggg

i was watching lee v quillin again. today, showing the old man a limerick man. saw how quillin scored a knocked down on lee which was clearly a trip his foot was stamped right on lees boot, the replays shows it. thought lee was hard as ..... coming back from a real ko down in the first, to box his way back in to the fight ,then hit quillin with one of his power shots ,that sent qullin down for the first time in his 31.0 career. really impressed with andy ,quillin looked a top fighter, andy more then held his own. bjs has never thought a fighter in lee league.but who knows bjs is a skilled boxer, but not sure if he can keep it up for 12 rounds and he doesn't have the power the scare lee from throwing a banger

only thing is Brilo , I reckon Eubank Jnr is up there with the best in the division ( bar ggg obviously ) and Bjs beat him and evaded Jnr's power shots , so makes the fight even more intriguing . Hope Lee can do it though

i agree but bjs slowed in them later rounds against eubanks, and john ryder which i think leaves him self open to be hit . i rate bjs big time

I think Andy's taken a canny bit of punishment already. If he gets past BJS (which I don't think he will) GGG will butcher him. He's a thoroughly nice fella and I hope I'm wrong, but I think his days at world level are limited.

That fight is fun to watch, Quillin was imposing his will until Lee caught him with the thunder. Quillin looked lost at times. Great action fight with plenty of visits to the canvas. I'm not sure how BJS compares to Lee, I can see BJS dominating until/if he gets caught at some point.

my thoughts entirely, the boxer v's the banger.......the greatest of boxing match-ups. if lee lands its bingo time, but i feel BJS will outbox him if he does not land.
