According to Boxing News, he has come out and will be part of a gay pride event next weekend.

First high-profile boxer to my knowledge who has ever come out.

Nope. I could care less what these guys do in their personal time.

It'd be tougher for a guy to come out as gay during his active career.
But coming out after its over is no big deal.

This has actually been widely known and speculated for some time...he just OFFICIALLY came out. In fact, the death that Griffith is most famous for causing against "Kid" Paret was precipitated by his being called gay by Paret before the fight. ESPN did a documentary on this a couple of years ago and spoke very candidly about Griffith being homosexual.

I look at two men together the same way I look at two fat people. They have every right to do whatever it is that they want to do...I just don't want to hear about it or see it. Griffith was an amazing fighter who went balls to the wall when he fought...as a fight fan, that's all that concerns me about his career.

Well, it was news to me.

Of course it doesn't devalue anything, but it is interesting because boxing is probably the most macho sport of all. It's inconceivable an active boxer would ever come out, isn't it?

Have any other gay boxers ever emerged?

I doubt you'd ever see an active fighter come out anytime soon.

Curry is only gay when there is crack cocaine on the line, im serious.

Darren Makusnki (sp) the guy who fought Fernando Vargas on HBO came out a while back.

Corrales' death, strangely, was reported on a gay site. Not making any 'accusations' or speculating at all. Obviously he had a wife previously and then his latest partner Michelle. Just sort of curious that a gay site would feel the need to report it. I suppose Corrales had a very effeminate way of talking but that can't be read too far.

definitely not. it's strange that in sports it's greeted with a lot of "oohs" and "ahhs" but in the arts it's nothing for gay film/lit/theatre to be accepted and acclaimed if good.

who cares what his sexual preference is be it man woman animal wearing diapers while hanging from a ceiling fan? As long as he puts on (put on) a good show I don't give a crap.

Good for him.

It doesn't bother me on iota, he's still a top drawer fighter.

If he doesn't bring it to the ring I'm fine. Ironically he wore normal shorts and all the straight guys where these flashy, glittery, or leapord style trunks. Not bashing Emile as he is tough and gets my respect, just an observation.

Why is this thread worthy? Who gives a shit about what this man does in private in his personal life?

Doesn't bother me in the least bit that he's gay. Myself, of anybody, I would have thought Chris Eubanks was queer as a three dollar bill
