out of sincerity and in respect for his bollocks and his ability to save shows at late notice then i will say yes, come on pete, get to 300 then call it a day mate.

but.......

for the good of boxing, someone who goes in the ring with absolutely no ambition nor effort to win should be ousted by the BBB of C and have their licence removed immediately. its conning the public to keep turning up and cross your arms in self defence whilst throwing the odd 'arm punch' to impress the people at the back of the hall who are half tanked up with lager.

I agree with that.

I really hope Buckley does makes the 300 mark. If he achieves this landmark I can't ever see it happening again. Buckley has done so much for the sport over the years he deserves the 300 bout accolade. :TU:

OUCH!

It's been happening since the bare-knuckle days mate, just in varying forms. It's part of the sport, and it is actually an integral part in my view.

best wishes

I can see both sides of the argument. yes, he teaches the young upstarts something, but its not a "sport" if the is no competition.

what does buckley teach ????????

the lads can learn alot more in any gym spar

the only thing i can think of him helping, is them getting used to fightin in front of crowds etc, but if they have any form of amatuer experience they proberly dont need it

o yes, he is good at padding records also

He doesn't so much teach boxers. He just gives them the oppurtunity to feel what a professional boxing match is like. The lighter gloves, longer rounds, dirty tricks ect..

He is an interesting guy and he must be on a good wegde based on how often he fights.

He has a top defence, but boxers are sometimes told to go easy on him shh

Poor Pete must have been shagging a few people's missus's on here to get this amount of stick!

If it is so easy what he does have a go urself.

Ask Olympic superstar James Cracknell what it's like!

Sometimes when a journeyman stays in his defensive shell it is because he knows he is fighting someone better.

If he was fighting someone he thought he could beat his tactics would be diff

Birmingham professor Peter Buckley is approaching a remarkable 300 fights as a pro (currently at 285).
It's a quantity that defies belief in the modern era but 18 years on the road has almost pulled it off for 38-year-old Buckley, who fought 22 times alone last year and will be the first British fighter to hit the 300-mark since Cardiff's Ernie "Red" Pullen just after the war (courtesy of boxing historian Derek O'Dell).
Peter turned pro back in the Thatcher era and boxed his way to plenty of wins and 12-round level. But doing enough to lose came easier and he was soon rolling with the punches with the likes of Naseem Hamed, Acelino Freitas, Colin McMillan, Scott Harrison, Duke McKenzie, Paul Ingle, Lehlohonwolo Ledwaba, Salim Medjkoune, Fabrice Benichou - all major world champions.
Then you have Michael Brodie, Gary Thornhill, Bradley Pryce, Dean Pithie, Alex Moon, Patrick Mullings, Jonjo Irwin, Michael Alldis, Mike Deveney, Brian Carr, Neil Swain, Paul Lloyd, Spencer Oliver, Ady Lewis, Lee Meager, Jason Cook, Richie Wenton, Michael Gomez, David Burke, Jason Booth, Drew Docherty and Johnny Armour - 'proper' champions he took on.
Other names on his record include Kevin Lear, Gavin Rees, Derry Matthews, Richard Evatt, Barry Jones, Steve Murray, Bradley Stone, James Murray, Donnie Hood, Steve Conway... Frightening. He's been stopped only twice in his last 158 fights (Pryce and American Martin O'Malley) and never been knocked out.
He intends to carry on (after 300) as long as he's not getting hurt.

thats the thing, he could actually beat some off these lads

he fights people with only a handful of am bouts and debuting as a pro, who he could easily beat if he TRYED just a little bit

He serves a prepouse he has very difficult defences to brake down he does some dirty old man tricks in the ring and he gives them there 1-0 I don't mind what he does what I object to is when promoters with kids on there 10th fights go in whith him.

Anyone seen him lately is he still looking healthy that is my only worry.

Josh,
He's as good as ever mate.
Had a word with him at the Barnsley show on the 3rd of this month, when he was last out.
He'll make 300 no doubt - and more.
If's buts whys wherefore's - the kid deserves respect whatever. I'd love to ask him how much his purse money totals. I bet a few would be shocked.

you have lost the plot, buckley is a boxer, and therefor is paid to take part in boxing matches !!!

cracknell is a rower....who got ko'd in the ring for charity. put buckley in a rowing boat and race cracknell over 3 miles.......errrrrrrr...no contest strangely. but at least cracknell raised some money for charity.

I think you have been quite disrespectful to Pete.

Yes Pete is a boxer and being a boxer is one of the toughest jobs in the world, esp if you are a busy journeyman when you are regularly being overmatched.

You have said he should have his licence taken off him, but the Khan's of this world would get far more out of trying to break down Bucley than by blowing out someone quickly.

In fact you say he doesn't try and just stands there with his arms crossed.

This indicates that you feel he is doing something easy, James Cracknell knows it's not easy and obviously he was fighting at a much lower level.

He won 6 of his first 8 fights, I see. Was he once considered a prospect?

He was a double area champion and went to Austria to fight local Harold Gier for some abc title (lost on points but dropped Gier in the 9th with a body shot).
I guess after fighting hard so many times, getting thier noses broke and having dodgy decisions go against them,These type of lads realise to come out with no bruises and fight for good money a week later is a better idea.
