Who Should Hatton Sign With?

Now that he's a free agent again, surely it's time for him to stop messing around with the smaller outfits and climb into bed with some muscle and clout in the ugly political world of boxing. (I'm not suggesting he enter a sexual relationship with Sylvester Stallone, but rather which Promotional outfit he should sign for).

I personally think that HBO promot... er.. I mean Golden Boy Promotions would be the best option. But there are plenty out there, like Arum -- who could offer Cotto -- King, and others who can give him leverage, experience saavy and decent fights.

Or do you think that bearing in mind Hatton has made a heap of money for fighting Collazo, Urango and now a probably past it Castillo that Banner have done a marvellous job and he should stick there?

Is he a free agent? How do you know that?

Well how many fights was the deal with HBO, and was it with Hatton or with Hobson as noted promoter.

Wasn't it put forward that Hobson was merely 'event managing' the fights, rather than being his promoter of note?

Banner have held up big fights before, i.e. Corrales-Castillo 1. Putting Corrales out of action for a fair time, till the contract ran out. I hope Pellulo has no options on Hatton. Ricky needs GBP, IMO because of their closeness with HBO.

Hatton doesn't need to sink to that level. He sells out the home pitch and is making a ton of money. Why get involved with those crooked SOBs? HBO will come crawling as they have no one who can attract more viewers right now.

As for Hatton having to move up, that's bollocks. Let the welterweights come down to meet him. He's the attraction after all. Satellite TV and PPV have negated the need for the big US arenas as well.

Hatton doesn't need what? Not sure which promoter you're calling crooked.

Agree on the welters. They may be a tad too big for him. If middles like Hopkins, Taylor and so on get p4p rankings based on beating welters, Hatton can (and can do it in a more exciting way) do so with lightweights.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it.
The TV outlets will come a running in due course.
The set up with FA suits Ricky fine, because he calls all the shots.
I can't see anyone else allowing him so much leverage.

Let them come down? Why, so Hatton can kill himself to meet them at 10 stone? Hatton should move up and grow into a Welterweight. Castillo was not a Light-Welterweight and had his best fights at 130.

If Hatton wants to a a legend, he needs to fight Cotto and Witter. Witter will alway's be his nemesis whether he likes it or not. He nneds to get rid of Witter or he will forever be judged on that. Witter IS WBC champion for fucks sake. Hatton was proud to hold the International belt wasn't he?

IBO and WBC International titles, the point being?

I would like Hatton to team up with Hennesey and Golden Boy.

We'll get Witter then domestically and Golden Boy will deliever on the global scene.

I'm sure Hatton must be a little narked about the whole post Tszyu events.. losing his titles and not getting the fights up untill Castillo. I hope the delivering of the one fight will not effect Hatton's outlook.... Its very much a situation similar to Warren's now. All of a sudden he's delievered two major bills - where has he been the last two years.

Hennessey seems to be very good a delivering shots. Yes, we can say about Woods getting 3 world title fights before succeeding. But how many eliminators did he have - remember how long he waited for the Jones' shot.. Then two eliminators for his two cracks at Johnson (and remember the first Johnson fight was supposed to be an eliminator).

Yet again Woods cannot seem to get out of the IBF mandated defenses... seems set to have two in a row.

come on, BC, 135 is where JLC had his best fights not 130. Want a list? Mayweather, Corrales, Julio Diaz, Joel Casamayor, Juan Lazcano, Cesar Bazan. The highlighted ones are big lightweights, I might add. i.e. they were practically light welters anyway.

Hatton doesn't really need Witter. Hatton has that Ring title making him the man. British ppl care about the fight but no one else does. Hatton obviously beat the main man, Tszyu. Witter won a vacant title against Corley. The latter needs the former, hence all those tiresome Hennessey press releseases.

Let some lightweights come up and fight him. I guarantee, no one would complain about Hatton v Juan Diaz for in-ring action.

Are you, in fact, clinically insane? What makes you think he had his best fights at 130? That's just bull-poo-poo and you know it.

Diego Corrales was not a massive Lightweight. He was making Super Feather only a couple of fights before (and claiming it was easy).

It would appear that Castillo had OUTGROWN Lightweight, but will never be a big Light Welter. Often happens when a fighter is a freak TWO or more weight devisions below.

Arturo Gatti - a freak at Super Feather, freak as a Lightweight, a big Light Welter, no Welterweight.

Similar with Castillo - a freak at Super Feather, big Lightweight, no Light Welter.

I wonder what will Cotto be at 154 lbs. Remember he fought quite a lot in his early career at Lightweight.

Corrales was a very big lightweight. He was tall and he filled out a fair bit, not to mention rehydrating with a lot of poundage post weigh ins. He also had to get weight down to make 135. Just cos he was once a super feather doesn't mean he wasn't a big lightweight.

Castilo's body would have grown neatly into 140 had he moved up in 2004. But it doesn't matter. Because he still had his last great run, down at 135, with a series of terrific wins and then the loss in the the fight of the decade.

It was a typo but my point is valid.

That Castillo is a blown up super-featherweight whose best fights were at 130? Or did the typo make it 130 when you meant 135?

Do you think, if that's the case, you should give the guy more of a chance at the new weight than 6 months and 2 fights?
