This was something I wanted to get to after Hatton-Castillo but I guess I forgot.

Kellerman kept calling Corrales-Castillo the greatest fight of all time. Now, I think its a great fight, but I wouldn't give it that distinction. I wouldn't even call it the best fight of this decade, I prefer Morales-Barrera.

Anyway, does anyone agree with Kellerman that Corrales-Castillo is the greatest fight ever?

No...i dont agree with Kellerman on that...it is one of the better fights of the last decade or so, but ALL TIME is pushing it tremendously.

Someday will make a list of the best fights ever per division, in my own opinion. 8)

Morales-Barrera I. Although it got one-sided at times, with Barrera getting too passive and just covering up under Morales' fire, and only waking up during the final 10 seconds of the round.

Calzaghe-Lacy deffo one of the best recent fights... so was Thaxton-Meager...

as for all time? i dunno, the annoying thing is, in some fcuking bar or sports centre in the seventies, it probably happened in front of about 50 people, and we all missed it.... my vote goes for Gatti-Ward (the trilogy if i may)

No, it was great but I prefer a lot of fights over it.

With the greater skill involved Hearns/SRL 1 & Duran/Leonard 1 both trump it for me.

For sheer action I would trun to Chacon/Limon 4

Certainly great but I don't think it would be in my top 10.

Kellerman will just jump on something new and modern to ruffle people's feathers. Remember how Zab Judah was the best 140 of all time? Or Jones Jr beating Joe Frazier?

Castillo-Corrales was a great fight but there have been literally dozens of fights as good and better in boxing.

I do think out of fights in the past 10 years, for sheer entertainment nothing beats Ward-Gatti I. Morales-Barrera I comes mighty close as well.

I don't think Morales-Pacqueo I gets enough credit . . .that was the best fight of the past few years IMO.

As for recent HW fights, I would say Lamon Brewster takes the cake on those. Brewster-Klitschko, Brewster-Krasniqi, and Brewster-Lyakovich were all excellent and much better fights than the other titleholders were engaging in.

I certainly do not think there are more than a few fights, of which the film is available, that were better then Corrales-Castillo I. Where both skill, almost non-stop entertainment and unpredictable result were involved. None of Gatti-Ward had enough skill involved to be as good. Hearns-SRL I was a boring match until the final few rounds.

Azumah Nelson & Jeff Fenech the 1st match..........Fenech.who in my opinion was well & truly robbed ...........2nd fight ............??? the real fenech never turned up!

Foreman/Lyle for me. it may have been devoid of any technical boxing skill, but no fight was ever more exciting or entertaining.

Maybe the real Nelson didn't turn up for the first fight.

Arguello vs Pryor 1 - Its a shame this fight didnt win ring magazines fight of the year, I favour this fight over Chacon-Limon 4.

Coetzee-Weaver, Foreman-Lyle, Fletcher-Green, Hagler-Mugabi: Are all great fights brawl wise.

Thanks guys, it seems we're all in agreement that its not the best fight ever... I myself might go with Hagler-Hearns or something.

Hmm, perhaps . . .I think Tyson-Holyfield is a very over-rated FOTY . . .at least Foreman-Young was competetive.

Carnera-Baer makes Foreman-Lyle a walk in the park ffs 8)

A one sided whupping??

Sanchez-Nelson is a classic.

It has the changes in momentum. The confused great trying to work out the soon-to-be great. Then Sanchez works out Nelson and drops him. He uses the left hook to take over. BUT Nelson somehow manages to get another head of steam up. He amazingly comes back at Sanchez. Those left hooks finally take their toll and Azumah's right side of the jaw breaks and swells hideously. Sanchez finally gets his man.

It's rare that 2 greats fight both at their ideal weight.

Oh come on . . in the 7th round Young was a good punch away from being KO'd, and then he fights back to come on strong and knock Foreman down in the 12th. Ruiz-Holyfield had none of that drama.

I concur it wasn't FOTY material, esp. since the first 6 rounds were really slow with little happening, but it was a league ahead of any of the Ruiz-Holyfield fights, which were all uniformely awful.

He was passive a LOT of time in that fight, allowing Morales to lead and just covering up and only very seldom waking up (usually in the final 10-15 seconds of the round). Overall it was a very clear win for Morales, who wasn't only more aggressive, but scored more clean punches and showed much superior ring generalship than Barrera.

But the best fight that I have ever seen was Leonard vs Hearns I. The other was Bazooka Limon vs Chacon IV...They do not make fights like this any more

As for Corrales vs Castillo I, I have not seen it yet, but the best fight of this decade for me was Trinidad vs Vargas...Exceptional clash!!!

Apart from the obvious favourites involving Ali and Louis.

I thought Ezzard Charles v Louis, Walcott and Marciano were great. But I have only seen limited rounds. But from what I have seen I have enjoyed and they had everything in them to qualify as great. (In my opion, anyway)

Louis/Charles should not be mentioned. That was about as exciting as Ali/Holmes

It was fought at a much faster pace and was much more competetive than Ali-Holmes.

I certainly stretched it to make a point. But it was a noncompetitive fight that wouldn't rank on any top 500 greatest fights list.
