Hatton & Guinness?

In Claude Abram's comment page of today's Boxing News, it's mentioned Ricky had 16 pints of Guiness at the post-fight party after beating Castillo.

16 pints? Man, that's a lot, even if Hatton is someone who likes & can handle a drink. I can't imagine what I'd be like if I consumed that much alcohol. I would most definitely not know where I was, & would probably not be able to stand up.

I feel this is just the reason why Ricky needs to be active. I know he due to celebrate after such a victory & long training camp, but surely, the above cannot be good for & will eventually, take it's toll. It has to at some point! I guess the big Q is when?

Perhaps he only wants 2 or 3 big fights before getting out, so maybe it won't matter.

Sounds unlikely really, someone as fit as Hatton was on Saturday night would have been on their back after 7/8 pints tops.

Yes, you can build up your capacity, but if you abstain for weeks or months (as presumably he had while training), you will get drunk a lot quicker than before. Plus he's only 10st, not as if he's a big fella.

I don't believe he had 16 pints, it would take a hardened drinker 2 do that, and a lot bigger bloke.

And that would usually be with the aid of some nose candy!

Can you imagine how big he's going to be when he retires?!

He doesn't give a fornicate now so when he's 35-40 and commentating he'll be sat there like Butterbean.

It depends how long the drinking session was, what percentage is giness 3.8%? If he drank 2 pints an hour for 8hours, he would have burned most the alcohol off by the end of the session

But seriously, I find it difficult to believe that a guy in training camp boiling down to make weight would be able to get 16 pints down in the immediate post fight celebrations.

In Boxing News, it actually says he drank "16 Guinesses". Maybe Ricky was on bottles, if the draught was crap or unavailable. The documentary on Setanta showed him drinking from a bottle after the Urango fight. Each bottle's just over half a pint, so 16 would be the equivalent of about 9 pints. That seems a bit more likely. I'm sure when he's been back on it a few weeks, though, he'll be able to sink the two gallons!

Exactly - I worry for guys like hatton and toney who have trouble keeping their weight down whilst they are still active boxers - I mean once they retire they will just keep getting fatter and fatter 'til they explode! But in all seriousness thats no way to live boxer or not.

It's possible, some people's livers are much better at breaking down alcohol than others.

There was TV show on the fattest bloke in britain, 'big barry,' well known portsmouth supporte I think he was, or was it birmingham. I forget.

He could drink 20 pints and not even be midly pissed, it took him 40+ pints before he would actually be drunk, and he had always been able to drink like this. They investigated him, and found his liver was practically superhuman.

They do do a decent pint of Guiness over there, there's Irish and English pubs.

Guiness is more like 4.3% and take it from an irishman that likes a pint 16 pints of the black stuff in one sitting would sent any man to the emergency room cos its rocket fuel.

Ive drank 12 pints and 3 jack daniels and coke in a sitting one night, I was fairly pissed and im 130 Kgs. If he drank 16 he would be carried to his hotel room.

i don't think he would of drank 16 pints of the black stuff that would take some doing thats a heavy drink on the old guts but i dont see the problem of enjoying yourself after a fight as long as he can keep it away from training which he seems to do i know a lot of fighters who get on it after a fight but they all know that there's a time to work and a time to play?????? if hatton did drink all that guinness f%$k sharing a room with him it could be the secret to dropping the weight :D

Yeah, I've always found that after a few stouts, the old shite comes tobogganing down the poop-luge at a fair old crack. 16 pints doesn't bare thinking about, one misplaced fart, and you'd pebbledash the entire room.

I've been out drinking with him....he probably did drink 16 pints!!! Seriously, he can effin drink. Every time I've been out with him and try to keep up I've been sick!! He's a proper beer monster!!

God knows how strong Guinness once was before specific gravity and by volume were introduced - The strength of a beer varied quite a lot in those days the only test at the brewery was to drink a pint - When it became a keg bitter in the 80s I think all the good stuff in it dissapeared - I was told, years ago beer was always stronger in winter than in summer - In winter the demand was always less so it stayed in the vats longer - My Mother used to say even the most hardened drinker found getting past 8 pints was almost impossible - If you consider beers were probably between 6 and 8 by volume its hardly surprising - Guinness was always known to be a strong beer as was Newcastle brown.

Yeah, it's not the alcohol content, it's the consistency of Guiness which is the real struggle, it's like cold stew.

I despise the stuff myself, far too bitter for my tastes. More a wheat-beer man myself. Found a triffic one called Estrella the other day in Tesco, but the daddy of them all is Fransiskaner, but very hard to find the cloudy version anywhere.

Yeah, wheat beer is awesome. I like Maisel Weisser myself. The ubiquitous Erdinger is nice, too.

Ice cool, a thin slice of lemon, and it's super refreshing for a summer's day.

I doubt, though, if Ricky could have built his 'chambion of blue collar' reputation on poncy drinks like wheat beer or wine.
