What are everyones thoughts... I wish that the bordes would retire these guys :( is there anyone appart from Hollyfield himself who thinks he can still win a world title back? I know the devision is shit but surly not... Boxing doesn't need another fighter ending his carrer like Ali

Holyfield will win, but will he get a title shot?

according to the guardian today he has said he will win a title within two years and sadly I think if he KOs not very good fighters for a while the money may be their

Yes he will because money talks. I could imagine him possibly beating Maskeev, but Peter will get Maskeev first and I/m not sure Holyfield could take Peter, although Peters sluggish style make it a possibility. Wlad and Chageev box the old man silly, unless Wlad has a panic attack again

I think that Hollyfield is shot at the moment so wouldn't like to see him in with those guys cos I think they could really hurt him

Holyfield can look really good against some of the Tough Men opponent she's been fighting. But look at his fight with Oquendo - he had to go after a fighter with movement and did hardly anything after scoring a 1st round knockdown. Not sure how he'll do vs Savarese, who's had 2 or 3 comeback wins of his own and is a big bloke.

Sounds fairly impressive according to reports. Glad to see he was hurting Saverese in the later stages.... cause whilst he has looked better in early rounds vs the bums he is facing. Against Oquendo he looked like he couldn't sustain it beyond the 3rd round after an electirc start.

The Oquendo win put him back in the picture, don't think he would win a world title but I don't think a title shot would be a travesty of justice... more deserving than Shannon Briggs.

Who will he fight next?

As sad as it seems if Holyfield keeps beating mediocre opposition his name may get him into the picture for a title shot. However as soon as Holyfield steps up in class he will be found out again as an old man, Povetkin decisioned Larry Donald wide last night and Donald of course beat Holyfield convincingly so we need to put Holyfield's win into perspective.

Plus Savarese is 41 himself and was never THAT good in his prime anyway, so far Maddalone, Bates and Savarese seem to have flattered Holyfield. Only Oquendo gave him trouble with movement and probably won that fight anyway.

Sadly I think he will get a title shot fairly soon because the money is there. He is active so he will be sharp but you can't train stopping that kind of physical degeneration. I remember reading in the Tommas Hausser book on ali (an excellent book by the way) an interview with I think it was angello dundee saying it should not be about passing a medical test by civilian doctors to deturmin if your fighting fit because you have to be at a whole different level to be a performance athleat.

But Saverese has always been mediocre and is now 41.... if Evander is having a 'entertaining' fight with Lou I dread to think what some of the top guys will do to him. This can only end with Evander taking a beating and being koed... and whose to say that he'll quit even then. I think Evander will carry on till either he's finally banned or physically incapable...

Well it sounds he did batter him judging by the cards. It wasn't close.

I'm not saying your not wrong, indeed I do agree. However, it did seem like when he went through a particularly bad run (Byrd, Donald, Toney etc) - it looked like he had severe stamina problems as beyond from a decent first round (which he had against all three, especially Toney) he seemed like he could punch. Even at times when Toney was going through a lazy patch. Holyfield who just lean on him on the ropes and do nowt.

It was pretty similar stuff vs Oquendo. An electric start, but from pretty much the second round on he did next to nowt, as if he was perminantly in the "set" position.

So I thought, oh well so much for the shoulder excuse. Although, Oquendo will give anyone in the top ten trouble cause of his movement and whether you thought he won or not, he still did better than Chris Byrd who DEFINATELY lost vs Fres.

I think thats why many people were hard press to give a prediction for this fight. Yes, Saverese is average - but his chin is usually okay and he's a trier and can whack a bit. He wouldn't certainly be negative like Fres. If Evander is still just in the set position, then Saverese would have capatilised (something Fres didn't do). Without seeing the fight, it would appear that Saverese would make Evander work a bit to win... and it looks like Evander came through that test.

Of course I want him to retire - quite a good note to end his career infact. Of course I appreciate that Saverese isn't Top 30 - but would I give Saverese and Oquendo a shout against Biggs. Well I would favour Fres and think Saverese would have a shout also.

He should have retired after the second Lewis fight, but in fairness he does have about 76 kids to feed....

I watched this on a web feed, and from what I could discern through a haze of drunkeness and the jerky feed, Evander looked surprisingly good. He was quick, mobile, aggressive, and was throwing big shots. He gave Savarese a right shooing, though he was caught in the 3rd with a big uppercut which stiffened the old legs.

Of course, this is only Savarese, who was never exactly a world beater, even in his prime, but Evander looked to have a surprising amount in the tank.

He will still get beaten by the next hungry young fighter with skills he faces.

Fighting a brawler is allot easier than fighting a slick boxer. Fighting a slick boxer means you have to chase after them, jab your way in, work the body, throw 6 shots to land 1 shot - theres far more work to do. You don't have to worry as much abotu slick counters either. You have to be very fast too.

Look how Holyfield did allot better against Ruiz/Rahman than he did against Byrd/Donald/Toney

Holyfield may do better against a big man like Wlad/Peter, than he did against a Byrd/Toney. He probably would look good against a Changeev/Valuev/Maskeev too.

I would love to see Holy take Wlad down absolutely love it

I think that Wlad would absolutely brutalise Holyfield, bad matchup. Holy always struggled against the bigger boys of the division, and Wlad has the reach to really punish the old warhorse from the outside.

Not a fight I'd like to see.

As I said, it was only Savarese, who is a big tough old lump and nothing more, but what surprised me was how many punches Vander was throwing compared to other fights in recent years. I do wonder whether that shoulder surgery has made a difference after all.

Thats a worry cause Jeremy Bates hurt him also, and he's just a pretty average tennis player.

By the way, there might be a slight chance that this is shown in the UK in the future. Apparently in the states ESPN classic have the rights to show the replay of this bill. So it might be on ESPN classic over here.

I agree that Evander has looked better since he came back to a certain degree, but then his opposition has gone down a notch... I do worry about him going in with some of the top guys... lord forbid that he gets in with either Samuel Peter or either of the Klitchenkos.
Strangely enough one fight I'd like to see at this point is Evander vs Toney 2... Toneys slipped a lot since their fight but it would be interesting to see how Evander does with him this time and its also a 'safe' fight for both men... or as safe as they can get while still being meaningful to a certain degree...
obviously Toneys banned so it wont happen.... :x

That's my thoughts as well, Holyfield's chin and heart would keep him coming back for more punishment against a really big puncher.

Who is in his corner now, is it Ronnie Shields?

Whoever is doing the programming for ESPN Classics over here wants shooting with a ball of their own 5hit.

I know they are trying to make it UK specific but from what I hear the US version is finally showing some great rarely seen gems now instead of Ali retreads and Eubank and Benn fights from a few years ago, which is what we are having to put up with here in the main..
