Enough respect for stepping through the ropes - amateur is hard enough, so I take my hat off to you, Sir.

Only way really is up, don't be too down.... I hope your okay.

Cheers Kev for the result.... and the Akinwande one - I didn't know he was fighting. Overhand Right will be chuffed.

A small little report, more to come later on the result also on Britishboxing.net

Kev, do you know if that pic on your site of Martin is fairly recent. His body type and height listed (5 foot 10) suggest to me he must have small legs.

He sent me the pic in December 2006, not sure how old it was when he sent it.

Thats a little unfair - I think it was a series of body shots that did for him.

The mind was willing and he kept getting up but his conditioning was lacking from what I have heard..

It was only said in jest.

As a side, even by his own admission the conditioning has always been lacking hasnt it.

You didn't hold back there, Terry.
Gillick, 12st 3lb, came out to fight, for want of a better word, looking fat. Rolls of the stuff rested on the band of his shorts as he waited for Jenno, who was roared into the ring by a sizeable Scouse travelling support.
From that article it seems as though you couldn't wait to write down something negative after all the times Martin has said he's gonna make his debut.

from what ive read on here it im a little disappointed in MTG, as follows:-

1. Turns up with no coach/cornerman - WTF even peter buckley brings nobby down with him

2. Overweight/Unprepared - Sorry no excuse here, FULL STOP.

boxing is not a game, i wouldnt let an amatuer box under these circumstances never mind a Pro.

Hang on what does Pro stand for ??????? Professional ????????

Who is the dog of a manager who would just throw a kid in unfit?

Dave Coldwell, may be unfair to criticise him too much.
MTG claimed to be ready, and i'm surethats what he told his manager,
Dave is in Sheffield and MTG is in Scotland, there has to be a certain amount of trust there.
Perhaps members of this forum are partly to blame.
Maybe he did not want to fight at all, but we all badgered/humiliated/embarassed him into doing it.

If we badgered him to put his hand in the fire, would he?

If I remember it was he who came on here asking for fights etc..

I'm not trying to defend him in that respect.

Be honest I never thought he would fight, and he just like the idea of talking about it, the sort of bloke in the pub who would talk about what he could have been.

If this was the case he just took things too far and was cornered into fighting, it doesn't seem he had trained for the bout.

I may be wrong and I respect any fella who steps between the ropes, even if it went badly for him.

Hopefully this will embarass him enough 2 get in real shape and put things right next time out.

Boxing isn't a game, you can't play boxing and he will have to make some sacrifices and do things properly

Sure there is a certain amount of trust but the manager should at least be monitoring him, and insisting he at had a look at him in Sheffield or wherever he is based.

After all he is getting paid to manage and give the fighter direction.

If managing a fighter was a case of calling a boxer when they had a job and then taking commission anyone could do it.

Why would a manager take on a kid he is never going see or know what shape he is in?

Coco,

I don't think the forum can be blamed at all. If what he says is true then he aint a person who just started being the "big I am" on a forum - he is an amateur with a decent 32-8 record.

We all stressed that he should get into better shape when a picture came on the forum when he was (his words) 10 lbs over weight. I personally thought he looked much more than that.

When he first started on the forum he claimed he would be fighting at Super Middle, so he was only 3 lbs over his desired weight - Jamie Moore is more than that for non title fights. The report sound like he could lose possibly a stone of that again.

I hope it was just a bit of a miss calculation on his behalf, but no way did anyone "force" him to fight. He always instigated the threads about himself - it was him who said about all his plans (including New Zealand). When he said he was in shape, then what are we expected to say - "don't fight"... we just said really what his manager has said.

Many managers don't take an active interest in their fighters training, esp if the fighter ain't coming to their gym.

It is up to the fighter 2 be in shape.

Managers earn there money by getting work and getting good money for the jobs. A lot of managers are just agents really.

It's not the managers fault if the fighter isn't truthful about his conditioning, it's his job 2 get the fight and the fighters job to have the fight.

I'm not blaming the forum, far from it, it is down to the fighter, even more so when he has really talked the talk.

I was just bringing up the possibility that we backed him in to a corner a bit.

It is certainly not something we should feel guilty about if it is true as he firmly put himself in that corner in the first place!

Lets hope he didn't take a manager's cut then and just a smaller agent's fee.

Sorry mate, but to me this is someone trying to nick a dime and to hell with the fighter and punters who paid to see a fight
