On the back of a pasting by Enzo and a one round TD, Bobby Gunn is fighting for the IBF Intercontinental title?

Go figure...

I'll have you know Bobby won a tough comeback fight since then , beating the 0-5 Elija Dickens . At least he did it in one round .

Gunn was a joke of an opponent for Enzo but he should have a win for Shelby Gross(Gunn put him down for 18 seconds in the first but the ref only got to 8/9 with his count) which I suppose would make his record look a little better .

In reality he should be a Light-Heavyweight or even a Super-Middleweight .

An IBF Intercontinental strap will give him a top 15 ranking, so when and if Maccarinelli unifies against Cunningham, a Gunn rematch will be ready and waiting.

Or a bin man :)

He started at Light-Middleweight , but that was 18 years ago and he was something like 15 . So it would make sense that he should be a good bit bigger now , but he's not a Cruiserweight . He came in at 181 lbs for a fight just over a year ago .

That's no way to talk about the most ferocious fighter since Jack Dempsey

Fighting bare knuckles is no proof of toughness. These days it's just local hard-men and bouncers. It's far tougher to climb into the ring with somebody of Maccarinelli's power.

Give me Randal Tex Cobb any day. The pounding he took with gloves forced Howard Cosell out of the business and I'll take that over any of gypo fights or cobbles afairs.

I mean, seriously: has anybody ever watched bare knuckle stuff on youtube? Tough guys who hardly land a blow, over matched opponents, lads who basically quit when they start feeling the pain. I know it sounds like a card involving a hotly tipped British prospect; but really, it's not a demonstration of toughness unless we're talking of the top level pre WWII.

That was fine. Veit had been on a fine winning streak, and while a fight against a marquee fighter was obviosuly preferrable, of all the mandaories, Veit was the most acceptable.

Actually, it turned out to be one of Calzaghe's better performance, and Veit had definitely improved.

Gunn, on the other hand, is a first class joke. Everybody knew beforehand, and the matchup was lamentable. I think even Doc Kearns, the maneger of the real Dempsey, would have baulked at such a rematch. And even a snake oil hawker would refuse to waste his time selling it.

Honestly, I've had emails and comments from all of them. Holcomb, Gunn.....

Seems they just had a falling out over money.

And "Joe Mack" has no business trying to occupy the moral high ground. He was more than happy to be associated with "the joke that is Bobby Bum" to use his own ridiculous prose, when it was making him money.

Gunn replied very strongly that it was, in fact Mac who'd tried to swindle money out of the Enzo deal.

Bobby Gunn has continued on his path of destruction stopping Benito Fernandez(19-14-0) in 2 rounds .

Amazingly Bobby has dropped from WBC #14 to #32 after his controversial loss to Enzo . The referee stopped the fight and Bobby hadn't even gone down once !

Bobby Gunn may never win a proper world title, but he showed his class by donating a portion of his purse to Iran Barkley, he used to be employed by Barkley as a sparring partner. He is now helping out the former champ.

Don't the BBBoC have some kind of rules against overmatched fights I seem to remember them stoping audley fighting someone over that. Why didn't they step in for Gunn.

Would the BBBofC be able to turn down a fighter ranked by the sanctioning body to which he's meant to challenge, ridiculous though it was Gunn was, unsuprisingly, an entry at #15 in the WBO.

If you haven't seen it it's worth watching once the fight actually starts...the intros are a bit long but you can probably skip ahead to the actual fight.

It's just beyond belief that a few fights later he wasa in against Enzo.

Gunn has given some of his last purse to Iran Barkley, who has fallen on bad times. Maybe he isn't exactly Muhammed Ali, but he is a good man.
