Brian did lose one pro fight, to Jacob Morake in 1982. He twice avenged that defeat by the time of their fourth meeting in Sun City in 1985 and 'had his number'. I've seen the fight on video and I remember Morake's corner encouraging their man - a mile behind on points and shaking his head - to come out for the fateful twelth round. I also remember there was a lot of 'needle' on Mitchell's part. He clearly detested that lone blot on his record (voted fight of the year for 1982 in South Africa). Morake was knocked out in the final round and, tragically, never recovered.
Mitchel made 12 defences of the WBA super-featherweight title and retired as undefeated IBF champion in 1992 (he also won two fights in a comeback).
