Top of the upsets this weekend has got to be Nonito Donaire destroying the previously unbeaten Vic Darchinyan, apparently Darchinyan was never in the fight. Maybe his last bout when his opponent ended up in a coma effected him more than we know.

Next up is Joachim Alcine who beat Travis Simms on points, Hopefully we can see Jamie Moore get a shot at Alcine, who's good but beatable.

Also add to the upsets Monte Barrett getting wiped out in 2 rounds by Cliff Couser. And over here Ian Napa taking the British Bantam title from Jason Booth.

This is what makes Boxing so good to watch sometimes.

Good thread! I'm really surprised about Simms losing, i had never seen Alcine fight but i always thought Simms was vastly underrated and a real stylist. However i am not surprised to see Darchinyan lose, i always thought he was vastly overrated. His unorthodox languid style was okay at bullying lesser foes but Donaire was a decent operator and apparently he made the Aussie look ordinary. I don't think Darhchinyan was ever that good to be honest.

As for Barrett i was surprised he got stopped by our forum friend Cliff, he finally got some work and caused an upset!

I've been impressed with Darchinyan, really thought he was on the cusp of something big. Maybe he underestimated Donaire.

Mind you Darchinyan must have been concussed or he has some serious problems with losing, he said he wasn't hurt and could have continued.

That was a great counter left, even more impressive given how little leverage he gets, on the back foot in comes Darchinyan and bang he pulls out that short crisp beauty. I have nothing against Darchinyan and i respect his attitude for wanting the bigger fights but he is a bit arrogant and was constantly running his mouth off until that left hook landed smack in the middle of it! Donaire was once a prospect i believe? I seem to remember the name from a SKY big fight undercard at some point.

And Napa's was well deserved, I just hope he gets rid of his belly

Whatever burdens he finds - weight, cockiness/concentration, catching a good shot - this fight was never a dead cert.

Donaire has definitely been featured before (remember pegging him) though where has been doing my nut since the weekend.

That was an amazing punch from Donaire. I've read countless interviews from Darchinyan and he comes across as a cocky braggart. Good to see the bully put in his place. This week outlines why boxing is great I agree.

Could well be J, but i just remember the name Nonito Donaire for some reason rolling off from Glenn McCrory or someone. "Great left heeewkk from Nonito Donaire" ...he may have said

Big surprise the Darchinyan result, he was being talked up as the next "Aussie" superstar. Graham Houston gave the underdog a chance here, which is usualy a good sign.
What sweet revenge for the brother.

Just shows how a seconds lapse can change a career. Would that punch have finished anyone at the weight, or is Vic's chin not so great?

Got me thinking about Naz for some reason - say one for him, he mixed at the highest level and no-one was able to keep him on the canvas for long.
