What is it with boxers and cars?

I see Harry Simon lost his appeal against a two-year sentence yesterday and is now in jail.

Overtaking, wrong side of the road, etc. Killed three including a baby.

Terrible.

Most fighters are going to be high testosterone individuals, and testosterone is known to make people take risks. You also see a lot of footballers in car bother too.

Though, cannot remember the last time I heard of a rugger bugger being in trouble over an incident with a car...

I don't think it's any different for boxers than anyone else.

The difference is that by the time most males have got enough money to own expensive sports cars, they're older, more mature and wiser.

Sportsmen are both young and rich and therefore can afford cars like this when all that speed and excitement still appeals.

Cars kill and are a weapon. The more powerful the car the more dangerous a weapon it is. Cars that are 10times more powerful than a regular Nissan Micra and are used to their fullest need to be taken great care with.

More people are killed on our roads than by practically any other cause. They are seen as 'accidents' and unavoidable but every accident is someones fault.

Sportsmen are no different to other people who take risks with high powered killing machines. If your going to speed though, there are safer places to speed and less safe places to speed.

Yeah, there's a correlation between adrenalin production and thrill seeking, most people who participate in dangerous sports, have an unusually high tolerance for adrenalin, and consequently require extra thrills to chase boredom away. I should imagine that an analysis of boxers would reveal that they too have in general the same traits.

After the buzz of boxing has gone, like you say Terrence, that fix needs to be provided elsewhere. It's probably no coincidence that a lot of them end up hammering loads of drugs when they retire.

Simon loved a drink, drove a car far too fast for the roads he drove on and had very little common sense.....
Add the above together and you come up with a tragedy.

On the other hand lots of boxers have nice cars and dont get in and major trouble....
