George Chemeres, 87, died Friday at Bayview Manor in Seattle. Per THE SEATTLE TIMES, Sat., Nov. 16, p. D2: "A native of Aberdeen, Chemeres started boxing as a teenager, but he made his name as a trainer, manager and promoter from the 1950s to the 1990s. He gained fame in Seattle in 1957 when his first big-name fighter, Pete Rademacher, knocked down heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson at Sick's Stadium before Patterson took control of the match. Chemeres went on to guide fighters such as Eddie Cotton... and Auburn native Greg Haugen.... Chemeres once ran the legendary Cherry Street boxing gym in downtown Seattle, and as recently as 1999 had John-John Palaki headlining cards at Rochester's Lucky Eagle Casino.... Chemeres' Shoreline apartment was filled with memorabilia from his life in boxing...."
A memorial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Nov. 23 at Columbia Funeral Home in Seattle.

Seattle area boxing fans will miss George Chemeras and owe him a debt of gratitude. There were times when boxing was almost dead in Seattle and Chemeras was the only one keeping it alive with his promotions.

Thank you very much for that Ric. I really appreciate it. Chemeras was living in my area of Seattle (Shoreline) and I was'nt even aware of it.
