The super middleweight clash everyone has been waiting for is . WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe (43-0, 32 KOs) will face Mikkel Kessler (39-0, 29 KOs) at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on November 3. The bout will be televised on Setanta. I wonder does this mean that Frank will be going full time with Seatanta??

allegedly Signs Big Deal with Setanta Sports

Top promoter allegedly has signed a multi fight deal with Setanta Sports to broadcast fights involving his stable of boxers, including WBO super-middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe.

Their cameras will be ringside when Calzaghe takes on WBC/WBA champion Mikkel Kessler on November 3, and Warren is backing the deal to be a major success.

Setanta's coverage will begin with a British featherweight title fight between Andy Morris and John Simpson on September 7 on a sold-out black-tie charity card at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The annual event raises money for DebRA, and attracts numerous celebrities from the worlds of sport, business and television.

"I'm delighted to be teaming up with Setanta, who are now major players on the sports broadcasting scene," said Warren.

"They will give my stable excellent coverage, and help cement my position as the number one promoter in Europe.

"I was impressed with their coverage of Ricky Hatton's recent fight against Jose Luis Castillo, and know they have a knowledgeable and highly skilled boxing team working for them.

"Calzaghe-Kessler is probably the biggest and most important fight involving a British boxer since I began promoting, and having Setanta on board will help make it in a show to surpass all others held in the UK."

Although I'm ecstatic the fight is on it is such a great shame most of the general public won't see this fight. Why the hell is it not on Itv? After building up Calzaghe with the fights with Lacy, Bika and Manfredo, they bail on the biggest, most dangerous fight of his career?

Well done to allegedly for getting this fight on,
but if he thinks people are going to subscribe to Setanta
aswell as SKY, he is wrong, Sky is a fortune as it is,
I presume Setanta will show this in like a box office format like they did
with Hattons last fight.

So what does the new ITV contract involve? Someone posted that it covered 6 shows. I notice Amir Khan wasn't mentioned in the article above. Wonder what the deal is there?

I subscribed to Setanta for Cotto-Judah and Hatton-Castillo and am due to cancel in a few weeks' time. I'll only keep paying the monthly subscription if they show the big US shows Sky miss out on. I won't pay just for SN shows, even if they are showing Calzaghe-Kessler. I'd only pay for that as a one-off.

Khan was the perfect fighter to stay on terrestrial tv with too!

Million figure viewers showed Boxing can do well on terrestrial too. Not every mug buy subscribe to channels or have digital TV .

As I see it, without full support from American TV, Warren had to go the extra mile to make Calzaghe-Kessler. Hence FW saying, "We don't don't get TV companies to get behind fights before they're made like happens in the States, except in this instance we did need the Bristish input and that's where Setanta has come in. What happens with the American broadcast will be sorted out next week."

Perhaps it will be a PPV available via Sky Box Office. Props to Warren and props to Setanta, for making this fight a reality. Did HBO or Showtime really make a serious effort? Did ITV? Did they bollox. Credit the ppl who are making this fight happen.

I tend to agree with Autobarn on this one. The fight has been made and as virtually everyone has access to Sky/Setanta now, they can choose whether to pay for it or not, clearly would not have happened without Setanta.

I would imagine most of the posters on here won't care which channel its on as they will be there. Just booked my hotel (St Davids - although thankfully they have a good cancellation policy), and looking forward to tix going on sale. Only slight downside, as my wife is Danish she wants to come along too, so won't be a lads weekend....

TT - that's of concern for Sports Network and Setanta - they will either make money or they won't, I'm simply saying that the fight wouldn't have happened without TV backing.

Problem is, Setanta isn't "only" £10 a month. Since I've had cable Sky Sports has gone up about a fiver a month and with Virgin, Setanta is actually £15 a month.

Great that Joe v Kessler is happening and that someone realized how important this fight is. We should support it.

But will Setanta show any more boxing in the meantime? I'd like to see something in July/August too.

It's just a matter of whether it's available as a PPV or whether it's a monthly subscription (£15 per month through Sky, £10 through Freeview). I've subscribed to Sky for years and will subscribe to Setanta on a permanant basis only if they cover some big US shows.

We can't be sure that the one-off deal offered for the Hatton fight will be extended to future big fights. With Hatton's future TV home uncertain, I don't want to be forking out £180 a year solely for SN shows. We need to know more!

True the fight needed TV money but we can all go on about as long as the fight happens It doesn't matter.

Not many will fork out for these channels just for boxing like we do and Sky Sports or BBC and Itv get the rest of the non boxing sporting events so what will Sentanta offer to get enough viewers?

not sure. When Calzaghe has accepted the big fight, and is training for it, and as you get closer to the fight, it's hard to pick against him. I'd had enough of him pre Lacy but in the run up to the fight I was hooked. But I like Kessler a lot. I'm sitting on the fence. It's easy to diss Joe, he even seems to encourage us to do so with his career lapses, but it's good to have the 'Big Fight Joe' rather than the 'Ordinary Joe.'

If Kessler wins he will deserve major props, especially fighting the champion away. However I think Calzaghe will be so fired up for this one, we'll see another fantastic performance. Kessler may have the youth advantage but Calzaghe doesn't fight like a 35 yr old. That jab will be tricky though.

I think with so many ppl rooting against Joe and hoping that Kessler KO's him, that by fight time, you will get behind the Brit.

It's great that the fight is on - ITV have never been committed to boxing as a whole, they just jumped on the Khan bandwagon.

I am not surprised it is ending up on Setanta - Not sure I will be subscribing though, probably just box office which fights I fancy.

As for Calzaghe, he'll win this fight.

im wont be getting setena regardless, the only sport i watch is boxing and soc-cer am so it just aint worth it - plus im out on the Keg weekends anyway

ITV - i take it they have just bought Khan next 6/7 fights then ?

If this is the case, will they be showing the July 21st show (Maccarinelli etc.) which doesn't feature Khan? The Setanta deal doesn't start until September.

itv have updated there schedule and this aint on it

so it doesnt look likely
