I noticed that too. I thought they were moving mics closer to an area that was actually making some noise.

atmosphere sounded good during the khan fight.

they did add on crowd noises at one point though didn't they.

Where can you find out what the attendence was?

also when the cook fight was being anounced there was somone on a tanoy in the background and the mc nearly forgot his words also i dont like the way that they get the fighters in the ring and then put adverts on it's a liberty making them wait at that time of the contest

The top wasnt open but apart from one large section by where the jocks were sitting it was fairly full for the Khan and Cook fights.
With small gaps and the one big one id say it was about 3 quarters full.

Is it really ITV's fault? I didn't see a single advert for the bill either around London or on TV. The reason it was empty was that no-one knew about it because the promoter failed to do his job and PROMOTE the event.

The place could/should have been filled, but laziness and complacency from Mr Warren is probably more to blame than ITV, who didn't sign the fight up until about 2 days before, so aren't too complicit in this.

I was there but have rewatched most of it on tape and ITV definitley added cheering and stupid screaming to the broadcast.

I could just about tolerate this for the condender but not for 'proper' boxing FFS.

Something has to be done about this. It's getting like Richard Killian on the fecking Running Man!

It was a false alarm bomb scare. They asked everyone to evacuate, nobody did, all the staff looked perplexed, and a couple of minutes later they said it had been a mistake!

Atmosphere was excellent for the Khan fight, good for the Cook fight, average for the rest with pockets of support (Rocky Dean and Kevin Mitchell particulalry well supported), and, as you would expect, turgid for the Skelton fight. Arena was mostly empty by the time of Pryce-Small, which was a shame.

Didn't see the ITV broadcast, but regarding the "sound effects", perhaps they were just switching the audio stream from time to time, as they do with camera angles?

Side note: During Vinnie Mitchell's fight, a small group of lads kept shouting their support for "Graham".... which was a bit weird for a fight involving a Vinnie and a Sergey. Obviously hardcore fans!

A highlight for me was during the pryce-small fight one guy was constantly shouting what a legend calzaghe was - which JC would occasionally acknowledge. This was spoiled slightly when he shouted "Joe, knock that German the f*** out!' Pretty sure he meant Kessler!

ITV and Sky are TV companies, not ticketsellers, I am acutely aware of this. I meant production-wise and analysis-wise.

Well in that case - I agree with you to an extent. I mean, how the fcuk can they schedule Skelton v Sprott for the main ITV Broadcast when you had so many other fights that were almost guaranteed to be more exciting. Most knowledgeable fans predicted Skelton Sprott to be a snorefest, while the exciting match up between Small and Pryce (exciting both beforehand and during the actual figth) was left in the metaphorical shadows.

Are the casual fans really more interested in seeing Skelton than a 'World' title fight???

In terms of their analysis - it amounts to Rosenthal and Barry Mac having a chummy little chat between adverts. I really wanted to see what was going on in the corners between rounds (esp when Khan was struggling), but all we got was adverts for bloody cars. And the build up for the fighters (background stories, etc) was abysmal. I know the yanks get criticised for a lot of things but after watching the HBO presentation of the Cintron v Matthyse fight, I know more about these fighters backgrounds and styles than about most of the UK fighters that fought (apart, of course, from Khan).

Yeah, WE (the knowledgeable fans) knew Pryce-Small would be good, but Skelton-Sprott had the name value, and it's understandable ITV ran with it. Unfortunately what he did see when sticking with ITV was a shambles and he may be less inclined to watch next time. Let's just hope Khan-Limond lives longer in the memory.

Incidentally, there were some guys behind me who, from what I overheard, were attending boxing for the first time, and they were SO excited by the Khan fight and pledging to "do this again" after it finished.

As for Skelton having Name value, I take your point, but surely if ITV had done any kind of plugging or analysis of either Cook or Pryce/Small, there would have been enough fans interested to stick around?

That guy was a legend - calling Kessler - Chrylser and what was his quote when he was screaming at Skelton/Sprott - 'I should have stayed at home playing my Nintendo WII With my 11 year old, my nan coul dhave you knocked you both out' says it all really!

Joe is such a good professional, goes to most shows, has time for the fans, stays to the end, quality.

Does anyone know the name of the boxer that seemed to be walking around the whole night with a white vest on, very small, muscely with a shaved head? Think he was in Bradleys corner in the end?

Did you hear the people shouting for Mark Williams in the Stephen Foster Jnr fight?

I think the problem with boxing today is that a huge amount of people only buy tickets to see Khan and therefore get in half way through the fight before and leave straight after. I would have said that the arena was a little more than 3/4 full for Khan and then nearly empty after.

For some reason ithis really irriates me.......... and also the crowds attitudes to Willie. Feck off back to Jock land you c_unt. get the fornicate back to your own country etc etc. Being Scottish this obviously pissed me off and I was the lone Willie supporter in my section but a lot of people could be bothered to applaud Willie at the end but choose to say more of the above and Boo after he's just given Khan his first big test that he can only learn from. bang out of order in my book. Never really wanted Khan to loose as hes good for British boxing but those attitudes had me wishing for a Willie upset!
