Good. His gym is very strict, but has a relaxed atmosphear. Jamies defence has improved ten fold since JOnes 3, nothing to say he cant do the same with other fighters, although I assume your only going on Amir Khan?

A coach is as good as the skill or desire of his charge. Or how he can motivate him.
I am a fat 34 year old ex amatuer, and I have never been in a gym with Oliver Harrison. So I cant pass an opinion. I would never judge him though.
From what I have seen on TV he seems very level headed and a calmimg influence on the fighter.

Completely agree, that factor shouldn't be under valued - I think it kept Amir undefeated record at the weekend. Khan was fucked, but we didn't see Harrison meet him half way, rush him over, and splash water all over him. Had Limond's camp seen that happen, then I think Limond would have react differently at the start of the next round - and might have got the stoppage, cause Khan was still gone.KO Artist wrote:Silly question.

Unfortunately Harrison is going to be the brunt of a lot of critiscm, even if it isn't warranted.
Personally I feel that Khan is fundamentaly flawed in the chin department - It doesn't matter who trains him, that isn't going to improve.

The results of the bouts he's been in charge of speak for themselves, but I'm not convinced yet, although it is early days and everyone has a learning curve.
Watching the Thompson-Vuma contest I felt for Thompson because the Harrison's didn't appear to be offering the lad much advice.

I am ambivalent about Harrison and most trainers - the fighter is committed or not. Trainers can motivate - An unskilled committed warrior can sometimes take out the most skillfull opponents if they are not there in spirit. The trainer can only hide flaws and polish the diamond - but it has to be a diamond in the first place.
Where was Khans head movement? I have not really seen it in 13 fights. fairly certain I did not see it AT ALL vs Limond and Drilzane, his longest/biggest fights.... what is Harrison doing about that? thats an honest question, so what do YOU know about that.....

As a pro trainer I am sure Harrison is aware of Khan’s faults especially the defensive ones. I am also sure that he is trying to iron these out in the gym. But the fact remains that Khan is not listening or is not implementing what’s being taught come fight night. And there must be a reason for that.

He showed a very cool head when Khan came back the corner after the 6th round near disaster. Could have easily panicked and started screaming, like everyone else ringside, but instead he calmed Amir down and gave him some sound advice - stop trying so hard.
Khan came out for the 7th relaxed, started letting his hands go and turned the fight around immediately. That was a pretty impressive comeback by Khan.
