I am sorry to hear that Jackie is unwell. He was a very active fighter between 1938 and 1956 engaging in 118 contests with a 35-81-11 record (with one bout cancelled due to rain during the 2nd round - you might want to ask him about it, it took place at the Halfway House Hotel, Robin Hoods Bay on Apr 29 1949).
Jackie came from West Hartlepool, where he started his career at the Engineers Club (open air in the summer, promoter Walter Hazeltine) and the Borough Hall. He also boxed at Darlington Baths Hall and at the Pottery Buildings, Hendon, Sunderland. In these pre war days he boxed as Kid Horseman.
He boxed throughout 1940 having 19 contests but he did not box at all between 1941 and 1945, no doubt because he joined the services.
From 1946 onwards he boxed all over the UK and he fought 2 British Champions, Teddy Gardener ( a fellow Hartlepudlian ) and Sammy McCarthy (Stepney). He went the distance with both of these men and fought creditably on both occasions.
I have a photo of Jackie which I will gladly supply to you, perhaps you would like to ask him to sign it if he is well enough, ex-boxers are always pleased, and often quite humble, when someone asks them for their autograph.
