Any thoughts on Arthur?

He's fighting for some semblance of the WBO title tomorrow, yet nobody seems to give a rat's rectum on here.

Anybody reckon he'll lose? I know jack about his opponent but he's 3/1 and I just don't have Alex down as a champion. Any thoughts on whether I'd be pissing my dough down the crapper?

arthur should win.

hopefully guzman sticks around and fights him for the real thing.

Ive seen Gogaladze a few times on ESPN and I have to say if anything he's awkward as hell. He crouches low, he's a southpaw and he probably punches harder than his record suggests (I saw him ko cleanly some guy called juan garza in the 2nd round - Garza was 20-1 at the time I think). He's a crafy counter-puncher - Arthur won't be able to walk threw him like he did Palomo. I'll be pleasantly surprised if Arthur dominates him but at 7-1 for Gogaladze to win on points he's a good "throw-away" bet.

i was impressed by alex arthur tonight. he looked a match for guzman and i think they should waste no time in getting him a big match up with a world champ

I wasn't impressed. He looked crude, telegraphed his shots and relied simply on size/brute strength. AA's skills have hit a limit. I know the guy was a southpaw but this was not accomplished work.

If Soto beats Guzman, AA has no chance of winning a world title.

Enzo Maccarinelli looked like a world champion tonight. He was composed. He knew when to get in / out of range and showed an excellent arsenal.

I thought he looked rusty and took a while to get going, but finished the job well after dominating from about the fourth onwards. I think there's just something missing from his armoury at the top level and will probably lose to the top guys, but that's no real disgrace in a division as talent-rich as super-feather is right now. I'd give him a better chance at featherweight or lightweight.

He may not be in the same class as the guys at the top but if we use you're formula:

I'll talk about Barrera , Junior Jones beat the shit out of him(twice) , now he talking about Guzman , Morales , himself etc. Not in the same league..................

I'd agree that he may need to step up to 135lb but he has got himself into a good position in the 130lb division so he'll be killing himself at the weight for as long as possible. There is no way he would ever make 126.

130's just too good at the moment for Arthur to make any impression on the world scene. He'd be better off at 135. There's a possibility that next month Erik Morales, although extremely shop-worn, just might take the WBC title from David Diaz who, by most accounts, is a very average belt-holder. Alex would have more chance against the current version of EM than the likes of Pac, Soto, Marquez, Barrios or Guzman (if he stays at 130 and AA has to fight him for the proper WBO title).

I think he has reached his peak.

Even so, it will be good for him to make a few quid in voluntary defences of the WBO crown, but I feel the first time he comes up against a known name, he will come unstuck.

He's not quite world class and I think if he was he would've done something at world level by now.

i think he's good enough for a pop at one of the so called elite in this division. but with a proviso that its in scotland and in the next 6 months.
he's at his peak right now and although i am not a big fan he looks pretty good to me. he has certainly moved on from the gomez days

think barrera has shown he's world class ,has Arthur? i think not, WBO = shit. when he beat someone half decent, i'll giv him the credit he deserves. :TU: ps. u cant compare gomez to JJ.

Regardless of how Arthur fares against the divisions elite, he has earned a shot against one them.

Arthur v Kirakosyan is the fight to see. I'd pick Kirakosyan but it'd be a terrific fight.

Good call. That would be a decent first defense of the WBO strap, for sure.

I really don't see what the fuss is about Kirakosyan. KO wins does not make you a top level guy. He remains unproven really to me. Wins over Bento and Johanneson do not exactly change my mind. Yes they were impressive but against limited opposition. I'd fancy Alex strongly over Kirkosyan if a match was made.

Like I said before, regardless of how you feel about his style, he deserves his shot at the big boys.

Barrera started off as WBO champ don't forget. Arthur's only just starting to try and be world class.

yeah well, he looks about the same level as Arthur, which is why I suggested it. At least he throws clean compact shots, as opposed to charge at the opponent, wang away and hope it lands which is what AA's starting to look more & more like. Sure he has the good Euro level wins, so why not be happy with that instea dof waiting for Guzman to vacate & assorted nonsense...

AA's not quite that level, and with him going on for 30 it looks like he may have found his level. I know we do things differently over here (i.e domestic, Euro, world), but I don't think Alex has the goods that Calzaghe and Macca can deliver.

Maybe he won't be as sucessful as Mac and Joe but he looks fringe world class or non elite world class level.

He loses early rounds but Arthur looks a slow starter to me.

I see Arthur having a decent chance against Barrera at this point, but I don't think the fight can be made. As I say, Kirakosyan would be an entertaining first defense - although it wouldn't do a great deal to enhance his reputation. If Mzonke Fana still has the IBF belt in a few months that would also be a very winnable "big" fight for him.
