Katsidis defended his title today against Czar Amonsot from the Phillipines.
Kats was cut twice over left eye, once from a punch and once from a AHC. Also cut under the right eye.
The Phillipino was down in the 2nd and in the 9th, he was a tough hombre.
What a cracker of a fight!

Much better than the main event.
They didn't interview him, but there was talk of fighting Juan Diaz.
Thats a pretty big step up, is Katsidis ready for Diaz?

i think juan diaz is fighting the IBF champ next isnt he? (i forget what diaz that one is, julio?) i think rocky should try and get a fight with a contender/gatekeeper before fighting juan. there is no shortage of talent at LW so he should be able to get a decent opponenet

What about the scorecards. There is no way it was 114-112. Rocky won it pretty convincingly despite the way he looked.

I only gave 3-4 rounds to Czar and 2 of them Katsidis had off(last 2).
I scored it 116-110 and could easily have scored it 117-109.
Katsidis showed he has great heart and really fought hard although his eye was a mess.

amonsot is in the hospital with a brain bleed which is a very sad, makesyou remember how much a tough fight takes out of a human

Gun-Hoe fighting like that is great to watch but lets be honest Katsidis has no Jab and his defense is a disgrace.....
Maybe it was nerves on his first outing in Vega's but he'll radically have to re-think his strategy after that waking up call against a vallant figher that he encountered in Czar.
Sure his Right is a serious threat to anyone but a couple of harsh words for him is needed 'cas he's potentially a very exciting big-time boxing draw world-wide if he bucks up.
I'LL keep an eye out 4 him on his next bout
Very severe cuts on him for those who didnt view the fight - Operation Job id say

After those cuts appeared I didn't think there was any way Katsidis could go 12 rounds. He (and his cut man) proved me wrong. Both men showed great toughness. Katsidis has great heart and awsome power. As mentined he does need to work on his defence and I'm sure he will work more on that now that he is in the big time. It was a great win for "Rocky The Great"...
Did I hear on the telecast that he has signed with Golden Boy???

From what I have read on the subject, if Juan or Julio Diaz (whichever wins the November fight) does not fight Katsidis next he forfeits the WBO title to Katsidis.
Anybody who thinks Michael was badly cut in that fight obviously never saw photos of Rocky Graziano taken after some of his fights. A walk-up fighter will always get cut, but boy they are fun to watch.

Mate, whether another fighter has been cut worse is beside the point. Katsidis' cuts were bad, end of story.

Yeah De La Hoya signed him up which is gonna mean big things for Katsidis now. Also did anyone esle notice the hard-on that The Colonel seemed to have for Katsidis?

Mate the Colonel has a hard on for Australia. I have actually met the bloke and he is an interesting character but if you listen to any of his calls I bet he will mention Australia and in particular Panthers World of entertainment and Tony Caradona... He always mentions them and other 'contacts' he has.
One of the funniest/strangest calls he did was the Shannan Taylor Raymond Joval card. Taylor was getting pumped (eventually KO'd) yet the Colonel kept saying how well he was doing and that he had him winning every round. He also made a huge fuss over his "fine chiselled body" referring to him as an Adonis...
My mate and know if we are scoring a fight correctly if we have the opposite to the Colonel
In short don't listen to what he says to much.
On that note why was this fight shown through mainevent when Sky had been advertising it? I'm sure if it was shown through Sky we would have had the HBO commentators who are slightly better The Colonel Bob Sheriden...

Get well soon, Czar. What a great effort; let's hope the price for our entertainment isn't too great.

Better than the WBF Penta LatinAfro-Inuit type titles Aussies usually fight for.
No offence to Australian boxers or fans - you know this is the case!

Grant, it's an interim Title mate. It basically means you are the number one contender (probably even more so than the WBA 'regular' Title). It occurs when a fighter earns the right to face the champion but the champion is unable to fight within the given time frame, usually due to injury (sometimes other commitments). Then the bloke who has earned the right to face the champion fights the next highest ranked contender to determine which 'active' fighter is in fact the best in the world (really the organisation). Seeing as the winner is the best active fighter in the organisation he is the Interim Champion. When the Champion comes back he is required to fight the Interim Champion to determine once again who the best active fighter in the world (organisation) is.
So when you defend an Interim Title you are defending the right to face the Champion. They dress it up so it sounds better AND they can charge sanctioning fees.
In the scheme of things these days this is not much to get worked up about...

Mike can improve on his defence... But keep in mind hes fighting a southpaw and was blind out of his left on from round 2.
Well done mike, showed plenty of heart mate.

Thanks mate I really know that, I am just making comment that the real champion is slotted to fight someone else later on this year. The WBO should decide how long this Interim shit Lasts else give it to Michael .......
This whole thing stinks to the sky....
When he won did they say ...And still the WBO Interim Champion?
Im sorry mate I think he is a good fighter but it just bugs this interim shyte

Thats fair enough mate so long as you are equally annoyed by the WBA 'regular' Champion thing that goes on...
In an ideal world we would go back to having 8 weight divisions and 8 Champions. How good would that be!!! Not that it will ever happen mind you. :(

We are of the same opinion. I have been number one voice against this crap, Its just that y'know I am not against fighters making money but when they go around with their finger in the air saying they are number one when they know that the real champ is either injured or pushed up to 'super champ' I feel like barfing.
I guess I am the 'interim cdhamp' when it comes to speaking out against this crap. I guess I will have to wait for you to get injured or maybe your computer goes down or maybe...........

Right now I'd settle for one champ per
organisation. FFS.

How this "Interim Title" came about was because Freitas announced his retirement and the fight was set up between between Katsidis and the Scot for the vacant title.
Freitas then changed his mind about retiring, and proceeded to show he was right first time by fighting Diaz and getting his arse kicked. As the fight for the vacant title had already been set up and both contenders had cleared their plans for the fight the WBO would have had legal problems if they cancelled it. Now the winner of the Battle of the Diazs has to defend against Katsidis or relinquish the WBO title.
Don't you just love it?

Sorry about that. I forgot the other fighter's name. Actually Earl is a Pom from Luton. I was probably thinking about the old Gordon Highlanders' expression "there'll always be an England, as long as they have Scotland to fight their battles for them."
