Greenberg To Face Reed August 18

London based Heavyweight prospect Roman Greenberg will face American veteran Damon Reed in his 26th professional fight at the South Town Exhibition Center in Sandy, Salt Lake City,Utah,USA on August 18.
The 25 year-old Israeli boxer, who has not fought since out-pointing the useful Michael Simms over 10 rounds in March, will face the Kansas City based Reed before taking on what his promoters Evans/Waterman and Warriors Boxing have described as a career defining test in December.
The 35 year-old Reed,43-11-(5), has won his last three fights and fought some of the leading heavyweight and cruiserweight contenders in the world since turning professional in April, 1995.
The question is does anyone care? Greenbergs career I would at best say stalled but has it ever got going? He seems to fight journeymen with a career defining fight next, I think this has been said for the last 10 fights!
He's supposed to be the next incarnation of Ali, the first billion dollar heavyweight, etc etc but surely time is now running out.

THis is despicable even for a prospect RG is a class above
Greenberg has bags of talent and they are slowing him up
He may notl not fulfil his potential at this rate

It was his then manager, I think John Hyland, who came out with that memorable quote.

I've heard that Greenburg has been KO'd a few times in sparring, maybe his handlers won't let him take on a live heavyweight until a big payday comes along.

I was stoned sideways that night and some friends from university were over for one of our Big Aud' nights (we held them once every 5-6 months or so).
Unsure of boxing hyperbole they took the quote at face value and asked me how that came about. I got confused, took it at face-value and tried to tie it in with Blackpool tower, made a hash of that and mumbled: "I dunno, he's sponsored by a fooking resort town, slots or something, now be quiet and watch Big Aud'."
Great days.
I did the programme for that fight and I have to say I was reluctant to give Ellis that billing in his profile!

Joke is Matthew Ellis might be getting an English title fight in the next six months.
And wait till you hear who they might match him with for the vacant strap. I've heard it straight from a Midland Area board members mouth.

Ellis isn't a bad fighter, he is certainly area title standard

Agreed, there's nothing wrong with him as an English title challenger.
Any guesses on the co-challenger?

I know he isn't a bad little fighter, im not doubting that. But the joke is him getting an English title shot after one comeback contest against Chris Woollas. There are plenty of other heavyweights worthy of a shot at the English title, surely?

PJ Rowson, who promotes both, is looking at putting on Butlin and Ellis for the vacant English heavyweight title in November. The board have given it the go ahead, or so i'm led to believe.
