R.I.P Mike Reid 19.01.40 - 29.07.07
Reid started his career as a standup comedian on London's comedy clubs and on cruise liners. He then took up the career of a stuntman with roles in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and war epic Spartacus.

He also acted as a stunt double for Roger Moore in The Saint before switching to the small screen and a role on ITV's The Comedians in 1973.

Was there no end to this man's talents? Spartacus!

Mike Reid was a seriously funny comedian, and despite being from the same era, was not of the racist invective type such as Bernard Manning, Jim Davidson etc.

My mate Rodger Raymond, a muslim black radical from university, once surprised me by producing a Mike Reid DVD whilst we were sitting round his house one day, and proclaimed himself a big fan. We watched the DVD and I was in frigging stitches. I'm thinking of ordering a DVD in tribute to the great man.

Met him once in Dublin

My aunt met him once, think it was at the Palladium. She was getting a drink, and she saw him standing on his own in the bar in a quiet corner smoking a fag.

She went over to speak to him and said "Hi nice to meet you, how are you."

To which Mike replied "Absolutely frigging shitting myself darlin." As he was due to go on soon.

He bought her a drink and sat and chatted to her and said thanks to her for calming his nerves, then after the show, came and sat with her and her husband and bought them all a few rounds before going on his way.

Always seemed a genuine bloke did Mike.

RIP, never knew he was a standup, only knew him from Eastenders, what did he die from?

He was a standup comedian since the 1960's...can't believe he was a stuntman in Spartacus though, that is just bizzare.
