Joan Guzman v Humberto Soto.
Exciting fight made for 17 november not sure if its offical yet, i am guessing this is for the WBO title? Were does this also leave Arthur.

Can Guzman still make 130? If he can and the fight with Soto goes ahead, does anyone think Arthur will fight the winner for the full title and where would the fight take place? Whatever, I hope Sky or Setanta show Guzman-Soto. It should be a cracker.

humberto soto is that the same fella who boxed at york hall the same time as johnny tapia ????

I'm going for Soto. Stronger at the weight, genuine KO power and more well schooled. Guzman won't be easy but Soto is the better fighter.

Guzman all the way, especially now that he has Floyd Mayweather Sr in his corner. Guzmans skills are a complete other class from Soto whos getting hyped quite heavilly, I'm not sure what Soto brings to the table that Barrios did not. Let us not forget Soto had a few problems with Bobby Pacquaio.

Soto has genuine skills and ppl have been noting this since he was beating Rocky Juarez two years ago, beating up Jorge Solis, who troubled Pac, and knocking out some tough super feather and lightweight nuts.
He hasn't been given the big fights, but he's developed his skills and looks very ready. I think he's the best at the weight.
Just because Guzman is flashy doesn't mean shit.

It's a tough one to call if Guzman goes through with it, remember he has a history of messing about and pulling out of fights. Guzman has flashy skills and looks a million dollars at times but when Barrios pinned him back (about twice in the whole fight admitted!) he looked uncomfortable.
Soto can set a good pace and has slashing power in both hands, a big strong guy. The way he cut down Ivan Valle and nullified Rocky Juarez were impressive. I didn't see his fight with Pacquiao but i did see his previous fight on Versus against a Venezuelan or Ecuadorian i forget. He looked good anyway that night.

Joan Guzman will make the third defence of his WBO super-featherweight title against Mexican Humberto Soto at the Sycuan Resort and cas!no in El Cajon,California on November 17.
The 31 year-old from the Dominican Republic was reportedly having trouble making the 130lb weight limit and was expected to move up to the lightweight division.
The announcement of the Guzman vs Soto fight is a severe blow to Scotland’s Alex Arthur, who was expected to be elevated to full WBO champion following his impressive knockout win over Koba Gogoladze to claim the interim title two weeks ago.
If Guzman successfully defends his title against Soto on November 17, he must face Alex Arthur within six months.
Speaking to the Scotsman.com Arthur’s promoter allegedly said: "If Guzman does now go ahead with the defence against Soto, then the winner of that one must face Alex in their next fight. I also believe it remains possible Guzman will not make the weight of 9st 4lb, in which case he would relinquish the title. It is frustrating for Alex, but the most important thing is he is now guaranteed a shot at the title."

I just can't see Guzman making the weight, and it's never bothered him before pulling out of fights, so what will change this time, He'll just f*ck another couple of boxers about again. By about the start of October he'll suddenly pull out.

I'm wondering whether Guzman can make 130lbs again. At Alex Arthur's last bout, Barry McGuigan stated that he'd recently visited a gym in USA, & that Guzman weighed near 170lbs. If so, then that's a lot of weight to shed for a little guy.
Can't quite comprehend why boxers let themselves get out of condition so badly. Fair enough, I know they are due a break, a good feed etc, but it seems boxers, more than other athletes in general, let themselves go way too much.

Is it just me, or did Jim Rosenthal say when going through the results "and its been confirmed that he (Arthur) is the champion proper".

Guzman has never failed to make weight previously. Although he did come in against Barrios suppedly around mid-140s.
Ricky Hatton has no problem going from 180-140, should Guzman have a lot of problems losing the same weight? Anyway how does McGuigan know how much Guzman weighed? I doubt they had him on the scale. Lets not forget Barry is basically paid to hype up Arthur and the other SN fighters
