Another Dodgy Title Belt....

While randomly perusing the Boxrec Super Middleweights (it's a slow work day!) i decided to click on Larry Marks and noticed a few fights back he contested the WAA Light Middleweight Title. What on earth is this? I thought it was obligatory and just general good manners for all the belts to include a B for Boxing. What could the WAA possibly stand for

I think it is the World Athletic Association, i'm sure Micheal Carruth beat Scott Dixon for their Welter Belt, bout 10 yrs ago

It's like a junior world title, with holders eligible to fight for the more senior WBB title.
I'm serious.

It was a sanctioning body set up by Pat O'Grady of Oklahoma, (Sean O'Grady's father) after he was shafted by Bob Arum, as alleged by Jim Brady
Read Boxing Confidential (by the late great Jim Brady) for an expose on this and some other appalling behaviour by promoters and people in positions of influence.
Pat O'Grady was manager, promoter and commssioner in Oklahoma.
Some shocking stories that make Don King look like Mother Theresa.
